A sect is an off-shoot much like JWs, LDSs, Quakers, Amish, Methodists, Baptists and other Protestant sects are from the Holy Roman Catholic Crutch.

In 'The West' the most well-known sect of Hinduism is the Hare Krishnas.
"In the 1960's an elderly monk known as A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, on the order of his guru, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, brought the teachings of Sri Chaitanya from India and single-handedly took the responsibility of spreading them around the Western world. Beginning in New York, he encircled the globe fourteen times in the final eleven years of his life, thus making 'Hare Krishna' a well-known phrase in many parts of the world."

It was big in the 'Western World' in the 60s through till about the mid 80s when Western white boys proved they were only human and scandals 'decimated' the once good name of the Krishnas.

Krishna is the 'god' they follow - he was the personification of 'god' much like Jesus in Xianity.

The main religious practices they followed were
No meat, fish or eggs; No gambling; No illicit sex (sex outside marriage); and saying the mantra so may times a day: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare.

You'll have to do some digging for the rest.

I associated with them on the fringes in the 70s and early 80s when I did my last serious search for 'god'.
I didn't find him cos he doesn't exist although there are some honourable searchers about but they are tiny minority.

When you don't know terms, like the word SECT---look it up in a dictionary. You can also try online places like http://www.wikipedia.org/

Sect would be similar to the word denomination in Christianity---like Catholic or Lutheran

Hinduism has no central doctrinal authority and many practising Hindus do not claim to belong to any particular denomination. However, academics categorize contemporary Hinduism into four major denominations: Vaishnavism, Shaivism, Shaktism and Smartism. The denominations differ primarily in the God worshipped as the Supreme One and in the traditions that accompany worship of that God.

Vaishnavas worship Vishnu; Shaivites worship Shiva; Shaktas worship Shakti (power) personified through a female divinity or Mother Goddess, Devi; while Smartists believe in the essential sameness of all deities.

that should get you started...hehehee we cannot do ALL your work for ya...heheheeee.

Basically Hinduism is an not a single religion, but it is an umbrella religion that has many different religions within it. That is what (i think) your teacher meant when she said sect.

Aryan samaj
founded by the author of the vedas (rishi ved vyasa)
the date of the vedic texts are open to argument - ranging from 1500 BC to 80 000 BC.
The number of followers would probably be 500 million
A religious practice would be the recitation of the "gayatri mantra"
The symbol would be OM

Not definite what Moksha is, however there are tons of matters you'll be able to "obtain" by means of bathing within the Ganges adding many infectious illnesses. The river is closely polluted with uncooked sewage, waste from a regional leather-based enterprise, animal waste, and different disgusting matters.
