Al Qaeda are Khawarijj. It is said in Islaam about the Khawarijj that Islaam will exit them like an arrow through game and that the verses of the Quran will not enter them beyond their throats. The modern day Khawarijj, are no different then their counterparts from the past. They seek to spread chaos and destruction through the world. They are enemies of the Muslims and only in recent times have they had the ability to cause chaos and destruction outside the lands of the Muslims.

Al Qaeda members would probably consider themselves "radically conservative", perhaps even the "ultra conservative" members of their culture; the only ones "really" serious about serving Allah 100%.
However, I believe this is incorrect.
They interpret the laws of Islam in a very conservative way as far as most personal behaviour is concerned. However, when righteousness and morality conflict with their political agenda, they are discarded for whatever action is desired (like bombing civilians). That is a LIBERAL theological action.
They would seem to be a disgusting hybrid of theology: conservative in theory, but liberal in convienent practice. The proper term for this is HYPOCRICY.

They are like neo conservatives, there is a difference.. Conservatives have good intentions, neo conservatives are evil power mongers that want to rule the world.. Bush, Cheney et all are neo conservatives.
Al Qaeda are like neo-conservatives but since they don't really have the power and weapons needed to rule the world they resort to terrorism. Other than that, they are the same simple minded fools that are stuck on a self serving tangent and don't care who or what they step on.

Al Qaeda is a terrorist group.
Real, true Muslims aren't terrorists:
“Nor take the life-which God has made sacred-except for just cause…”Qur’an (17:33)
“…If anyone slew a person-unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land-it would be as if he slew the whole people…”Qur’an (5:32)
Therefore, Al Qaeda as a whole are NOT real Muslims.

If you mean liberal or conservative Muslim, then Al Qaeda is neither, because Al Qaeda isn't Muslim. Muslims are Muslims, Al Qaeda is evil.
