Maybe you are thinking of Wycliffe who printed the Bible in the common language, he didn't write it. He was put to death by the catholic church for doing so. Their fear was if the common people could read the Scriptures, they would have no need for priests, bishops, cardinals and the pope, and would see the nonsense catholics pass off as Christianity.

I went to catholic schools growing up and we were always told that many of the Gospel writings in the new testament were mostly there to teach lessons. For example, the story of the prodigal son teaches us a lesson on values. I am sure between the apostles and everyone else in that era, there is a vast compilation of writers that contributed to all of the writings contained within the bible. Personally, even if there was no bible I would still believe in a superior being. Religion and faith is mind boggling. You can sit and think about it all day long but you can never get solid answers and thats part of the reason why I believe in God so much. The shows you watch are nothing more than conjectures that one believes to be true. Don't fall for this crap, because the stories seem to change every week. God's real, believing it and making it a part of your daily life only makes you a better person and you have nothing loose as a result.

The NT was the beginning of a new religion- the old one being Judaism, therefore from the Jews perspective the authors of the bible WERE heretics. Jesus himself was a Jew but his birth, ministry, death, and resurrection were foretold in the Old as signs of how to recognize the messiah. The Jews at that time believed the messiah would come as a conquering king though, not as a humble carpenter, so they refused to acknowledge him, Thus the breaking off and subsequent torture/stoning/crucifixion of many many christians as they attempted to eradicate this new religion. It spread like wildfire however (due to the miracles Jesus performed and his resurrection which 11 disciples died defending the veracity of), and eventually they gave up. I can't say that I know 1 person that would die defending a lie much less 11 of them.

I'm just curious if you know the actual name of this "heretic", because the bible was written by several people, not just one. Plus many other gospels and testaments were written that were not included in the bible (such as the Dead Sea Scrolls). The books that are in the New Testement were decided upon by a delegation of bishops during the rule of Constantine...so again, many people made the decisions of what went in there......If you could tell me the name, I could probably help you out a little more.

A man did NOT write the Bible. Many men wrote the New Testament and the last the Apostle John. Each letter was a book or an entity within itself. They were just combined years after the apostles were all dead.
We follow the New Testament by faith. That is all we have to believe it and all other people have that do not believe is their faith. There is no physical proof.

Well, I since I didn't see this show, I can't comment on it. But...many people believe it out of simple faith that comes from inside that the New Testament is and inspired work from God. I, myself am in conflict over this. When I did a search for "New Testament written by heretic"...I got nothing. So, I am inclined to wonder about the validity of this show.

I am not a christian, so it does not matter to me who wrote the bible.
That being said, I think you bring up a good question.
Why DO people follow a book that is supposedly the word and story of God, when it was written by humans?? And who actually wrote it? There is no hard evidence to go by.
People find morals and guidance in religion. Especially organized religion where others support them and help them feel validated in their beliefs.
My friend recently posted this on one of my blogs. I think he puts it even more eloquently than I: "Many people never truly transition into full adulthood, so they still seek to have someone tell them what is right and wrong. Such people happily swallow the "Divine Father" delusion as it gives them the moral guidance that they have failed to learn to provide for themselves"
I am happy you are asking questions. It is more than some people will ever do. Congrats on not following "the herd." Keep researching and learning.
(Oh, and I am sure that someone will freak out when they read my answer, so let me reply ahead of time: I do not care what you think of me. You are not on my level. You think your book is right, and I think mine is. Don't waste your time flaming me.)
Thank you.

Do you know what the word heretic means? It is "one who believes some doctrine contrary to the established faith or prevailing religion."
How does this make the New Testament any less true?

That t.v. program is garbage.
2 Timothy 3:14-17
(14) But continue in the things that you have learned and have been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
(15) and that from a babe you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
(16) All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
(17) that the man of God may be perfected, thoroughly furnished to every good work.

I would like to watch what you did. The New Testament was written by many authors, all inspired by God. If it was fake, then why is it still around after almost 2000 years? It has stood the test of time. If it were false, then it's authors wouldn't have died for it and their beliefs.
