be, or have been?

He was crucified once, according to the Bible. I think no one should be shocked that he has more than likely been crucified again, or is about to be.

I hear from many Christians that he will be coming down on a soft white cloud that feels just like Charmin but I doubt even Jesus would be that obvious. Acts 1:12 reads "This Jesus, who has been taken away from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go to heaven." In other words, you aren't going to know exactly how, because you're not him and you've never been to heaven.

And if you recognize the Second Coming as symbolic as many mainstream Christians do, you should certainly understand my inquiry and view it not as opposition but as a cry for peace. For anyone and everyone might be Jesus.

'Zilla? What? I'm not a troll. You know I had to get a new account.

Is that really you?

Yes, there are many passages in the NT that trumpet Jesus' second coming. MOST Christians (check polls) believe that the 'second coming' is symbolic - yet so many of you take it literally.

Fine - so there will be much fanfare. There's a whole ton of fanfare all over the world each day. What exactly will give you proof that this or that being is Jesus? Will there be an extra horn player or will it suddenly become old Jerusalem again?

VC: Though not a believer in Christianity I always assumed the exact same things - that Christ is symbolically 'born again' at the Eucharist, that when he said "It is through me that you shall enter the kingdom" he meant one acting with compassion and kindness and without judgment. And I absolutely LOVE your response to Willie D. He makes Christ sound terrifying and does indeed hearken back to original sin. Manifest destiny, indeed. I wish more Christians were like you. I wish all Christians were like you. I wish everyone was like you. You are a testament to your religion and to the call for peace on earth.

The only difference between us in regard to religion is that while I completely agree with the teachings of Jesus you have mentioned, I do not believe they are the words of a god. Many people, before and after Jesus, have utilized and fulfilled similar phrases. We completely respect one another's beliefs though and thus break down the supposed 'division' between us.

I actually knew him, he was this cool peaceful hippy guy who kept telling everyone that he was Jesus reborn and that everyone should love each other...
Guess what, nobody believed him and they put him in a mental institution and got him on some 5 different drugs and when he came out he was a shadow of himself, he hovered somewhere on the edge of society for a couple of years and then one winter drank himself to death.

I think we each have the potential to be the Christ. Jesus said, "You are everything I already am." Once we start living that truth, then the second coming will have happened.

There is no cloud; there is no army of God; the rapture is about evolution, acceleration, moving dimensionally as we become more and more enlightened. Those who remain behind will indeed face the fires of hell, as the earth works to heal herself.

Say it with me, (((Cookie))): I am the Messiah!

When he comes the second time there will be no soft white cloud. He will be coming back as the head of the army of God. He may descend from a cloud, but he will not be a person that you will want to fool with. You will recognize him. But remember, first the anti-Christ comes and people think he's the real thing. He will fool many, but the true believers will not be fooled.

Nice question cookie - I have my response, and a reply to an above poster.

My answer: I think (ah crap, I've already undermined myself to the faithful by saying 'think' rather than 'believe') that the symbolism of the Eucharist is the meaning of the second coming of Christ. His symbolic self is fractured, broken (like all of us poor humans) and shared. Christ is made whole again (resurrected, come again) in us - as the body of Christ. Couple of scriptural refererances "Whenever you do this for another you do this for me" "Love one another as I have loved you" "It is through me that you enter the kingdom" (I believe this last verse to be meaning acting in the manner of Christ - not babbling about his is some celestial killer). The positive power of Christianity, for me, comes from this image. 'I have shown you how to live, lovingly, now go and change the world by all of you acting in this manner'.

Now - a response. William D - with the "He will be coming back as the head of the army of God. He may descend from a cloud, but he will not be a person that you will want to fool with" You know, thats what people wanted from Christ the first time. A celestial a$$ kicker to prove that THEY ARE RIGHT, by God. Jesus turned that idea on its head. He came and he said Love is the way, I will love the sinner, I will love the forlorn, I will love those who come to me and recognize the power of love. I will love those who come to kill me - so that they might, in time recognize that even in the face of death I did not come to kick their butts. I came to love. The rapture theology, the judgement day, the fear based rationalization of hatred, intolerance and punishment is not of Christ. It is the manifestation of the deep seated rotteness of human nature. It is the manifestation of original sin, it is Cain killing Abel, it is the deception that was promised. Christ came to teach that love is the way, and left it to us to share that love with one another. Once we get that right - heaven will come to exist right here on earth.

Salaam

Revelation 19:11 depicts Jesus's return to earth very well. As well, all will see the coming of the Son of Man (trying to remember where that part of the scripture was, but it's there)

It won't be on a cloud.

I have a theory that each of us holds the possibility of actually becoming a Christ ourselves. Jesus was one man, but we may each be a Christ, if we have the self-awareness and will to do so. This is why I am not a Christian. I do not follow or worship a savior; I seek the enlightenment of becoming One with my Higher Self.

According to the Seventh Day Adventists Jesus's second coming occurred in the mid 19th century but he didn't establish his kingdom on earth because xians were recognizing the true sabbath (Saturday instead of Sunday)

Matthew 24 discusses the composite signal of Jesus' presence in Kingdom vigour, a signal that discerning ones in the world might be in a position to choose up on. Particularly considering the 12 months 1914, the ones indicators that Jesus referred to had been determined at the global scene as not ever earlier than recorded in historical past......WARFARE (the likes of which the arena had not ever skilled, encompassing the whole globe AND being countless in quantity), literal EARTHQUAKES (not ever earlier than in recorded historical past has there been such an expand in earthquakes on the earth, in a single side after one other), DISEASE (AIDS, melanoma, diabetes, and so forth and so forth......killing thousands upon thousands), FOOD SHORTAGES (they nonetheless in these days play ads inquiring for support in sponsoring persons (traditionally kids) of international countries where persons are going to mattress ravenous everyday), and so forth and so forth........ These matters, in conjunction with the hallmarks of the way mankind might be most of the time as acknowledged in two Timothy three:a million-five in the course of the "final days" are evidence confident that Jesus Christ is the now-ruling king of God's heavenly kingdom, looking forward to God's command to move forth and convey to destroy the ones ruining the earth and solving the distress that mankind has needed to suffer for enormous quantities of years. And God will supply that command to Jesus at HIS due time.

Matthew 24:31
And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

1 Corinthians 15:51-58
(51) Behold, I speak a mystery to you; we shall not all fall asleep, but we shall all be changed;
(52) in a moment, in a glance of an eye, at the last trumpet. For a trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall all be changed.
(53) For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
(54) But when this corruptible shall put on incorruption, and when this mortal shall put on immortality, then will take place the word that is written, "Death is swallowed up in victory.
(55) O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory?"
(56) The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the Law.
(57) But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
(58) So that, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not without fruit in the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
(16) For the Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ shall rise first.
(17) Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. And so we shall ever be with the Lord.
(18) Therefore comfort one another with these words.
