Clean, vaccumm. There is nothing worse than to walk into a shop/store and the staff memeber is sitting there bored shitless and the shop is an absolute mess. There is always something to do. Wipe down shelves, or mop, vac... ect: Makes you look better as an employee, shop attenteant and you would find, people like coming into a pro active shop. (And you can tell)

Did you know retail is at the very bottom on the wage scale? It's
even below McDonald's wages.
Have you considered getting an education in something you like? The more education the higher the wages. Get into an on line school and study your material during your slow times at work. 2 breaks and 1/2 hour lunch allows you 1 hour of study time.
I was in labor jobs forever. I never made more than 25K in a year. I got my CLD A and now I drive a truck for over 50K. My education was only for 9 weeks.
What can you do?

Clean and arrange the displays. Empty the trash. Make sure the stock is in order such that you or anyone else can find what you need in a hurry. Check the bathrooms (especially if they are available to customers). Vacuum the floor. Check the lightbulbs and change them if needed. Check your own appearance in a mirror. Walk outside and say "hello" to people passing by.
If that all fails, ask the boss what else you can do to help.

Get a job at staples in the copy center. I worked nights for 5 years in high school/college and got most of my homework done.
