Yes, it's called scope bite, and there's not another cut that looks like a scope bite, you can tell by the semi circular cut over their shooting eye. I saw a guy in the grocery store with a scope bite, I asked him what caliber? He sheepishly answered " 300winmag" yup, that'll do it!

I am happy to say that I have NEVER been hit with a rifle scope nor any magnum pistol
But my son joined the Scope Eyebrow club with a Savage Mdl 99 in .300 Savage. He was shooting down hill and crawled his stock. We still laugh about it.

I got bit by an old Springfield M1.
I was shooting with some friends and was asked if I wanted to try, "Of course I did!"
I had shot rifles before, (like .22's and small stuff) so I placed it in my shoulder, pulled back on the stock, aimed like I knew what I was doing, and pulled the trigger. Ended up getting smacked in the head, right above my right eyebrow. Talk about embarrased, and it hurt like hell for the next day or so!
(Remembering is making my head hurt right now!)
I later joined the Marines and they taught me how to shoot correctly. With an M-16 my cheekweld was measured by placing the tip of my nose to the charging handle when it is locked forward (for placed shots).
When it was time to fire bursts or auto on any weapons, the ghost pain in my eyebrow reminded me to keep my face further away from the receiver!
I was scarred for life with that M1, but have never done it again!

Yes as a matter of fact when trying to take a fast shot at a running deer, I did get hit in the head with my scope. I still have the scar between my eyes.

I'm not a stock-crawler (having said that I've probably just ruined a fifty year record of no scope bites) but "Lil Bro" did once, not enough to draw blood. I suppose it happens to just about everybody though if you're at it long enough.
On the other hand, the first time I shot a forty-something revolver (I must have been about eight) it came back right on my crown.

Yep. Hurt too.
Was using aRremington 700. Stock was a little too short.
Switched to a Savage, which fit me better. No more scope-eyebrow.
Think that hurts, try a NEF single with a hot-loaded 45-70.......pain, much pain......
*WWD....HAH! you too? I wish I could say I was eight though.......and mine was a .475 linebaugh. Next time i will pay extra for the magna-port!

no but I've been hit between the eyes above my nose with a 7 mag & a 300 mag. you will be surprised how much you bleed. the blood or broken glasses are usually the first hint you get that somethings not right. every body has to pay their dues before they get it right. no big thang!

Me too. I guess it's something we all have to learn the hard way. I have a friend, and every November (prior to hunting season) he has a semi-cicular ring of scab around the top of his eye, and on the bridge of his nose. And every year I ask him, 'Rifle all sighted in now?'
