Limewire safety?

I have limewire on my PC. I no that it can sometimes have spyware or viruses when downloading music. When it is not in use, how can i disable this shareware, so that viruses wont load automatically on to my PC? Please explain step by step. Thank You.

rightclick the taskbar icon and close it ... block it with a software firewall ... but the main problem is purposely downloading somthing u think is ok but its not ..
