WMP does not embed the album arts in the MP3 file itself as a meta data. Instead, it stores some hidden JPG files in the same directory as the corresponding MP3 files.

To view the files, open Windows Explorer. Go to menu Tools - Folder Options, tab View. Select "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" options.

When you go to the MP3 directory, these hidden album art files now are revealed (AlbumArt_*.jpg, Folder.jpg, AlbumArtSmall.jpg). You can remove these.

Now, what irritates me (I haven't found the solution) is to prevent the WMP to re-download again these files, even though I have turned off all WMP settings for not to download/update media files!

On a WIN7 computer NOT connected to the internet - I delete the albumart files - 10 minutes later they are back again - I noticed the Update flash for a second or 2 at the bottom of Media Library, opened but doing nothing. It automatically replaced the deleted files with newly regenerated files THAT WERE EXACTLY the same as the files deleted. What gives? The computer isn t connected to the internet so where is it getting the replacement albumart from? It is really sad Microsoft doesn t give users direct control - at least to have the albumart be blank. No image is better than the wrong image.
