But atheists aren't a group.
I mean, I'm a card-carrying member of the Church of Nothing, and I wear my "God ain't Real, Pilgrim" shirt every day, but most atheists are kind of isolated to be unified by anything.

It's not disbelief. We have NO belief in a god. Disbelief is looking as something and not believing. In the atheist case, there is nothing to see. As to the persecution complex, Yes we are persecuted, but it doesn't help any because most of the country doesn't believe that we are because they believe this is a christian nation. It doesn't matter that they are wrong. It's what they believe.

Atheists aren't united, really, so persecution wouldn't make much of a difference on a large scale. And it's certainly not as though it doesn't happen...
After all, according to Bush Daddy, atheists cannot even be considered patriots or citizens of the US. Another reason to hate the Bush family, as if I needed one.

Possibly but not as much as religions which tend to prophesize that in the 'end times' people will turn away from said religion. This acts as a negative feedback because it scares the bejeezus out of people and brings them back to religion if the number of adherents dwindles.

There is no atheist persecution in the west. In some European countries (such as France) it is actually an unoficially prefered outlook of the state.
Atheists are heavily persecuted in the middle east - such that I doubt they would dare make themselves known in order to unite.

Persecution complexes just look foolish, look at how some members of the Christian majority act in the U.S.

I don't think we need to be united. I also don't want to sit around having pity parties all the time.

you know you all think that atheists are grouped together because they don't bicker and nag like christians do... we disagree, but we don't try to continurally force our opinions down each other's necks... we don't say to each other you don't belong here... or you are wrong.... we just learn to accept each other... what does unite us is freedom, peace, respect... somethng christians have never practiced.

You really think that we are "united"??????? Seriously?
I prefer to live in reality. I don't make it a point to tell most people so it isn't really ever a big issue.
