Yom Kippur is on the tenth day of Tishrea(a jewish month). On yom kippur, Jews ask for atonement. This year, 2008, yom kippur starts at sundown on friday, september 21 and ends at sundown on motzay shabbos (saturday night), september 22, at sundown.

the kol nidre service is Friday evening Sept. 22 and services for yom kippor continue all day Saturday until break fast after sundown
