That seems awfully expensive for this kind of surgery. I'd ask for a referral to a different surgeon.

here's my story : my cat had the same problem. the only place i could take him to was a university that had a vet school, so i took him there. they did the surgery to the tune of around $4000. i had to take him back 2 days after they discharged him because he wasn't eating - that trip was another $1500. they had told me that the chances of them coming back were about 1 in 1000 - that's why i had them do the surgery in the first place, plus he was only 3 yrs old. long story short -- they came back less than a year later, and he totally quit eating. the only thing they could have done was to close his ear canals permanently and he would have been deaf. needless to say, i couldn't put him through another major surgery like that. i didn't feel like they had taken very good care of him while he was there - both times when i picked him up. he was matted, and hadn't been brushed the whole time he also had litter stuck to him where they had used lube to check his temp. the first time i picked him up, he had a dressing around his head and neck - they told me i could take it off when i got home. if it could come off that soon - then why didn't they take it off before i picked him up? anyway less than a year after the original surgery, i had to put him to sleep, he gave up. it will be 7 years in dec. and i still miss him

You should try looking into Schools. I live near MSU and they have a program for qualifying family's. They have people that will help out with paying bills. So you wouldn't need to have all the money. They also offer a program to where the will do the surgery and one of the vets will take the animal home until your done paying for it. I would personally do either one if it meant saving my cats life. You can call your shelters and any animal rescue place to try and get a collection going. People will help with paying.. Animals touch peoples hearts. I wish you the best...

Sebastian Orson these are some good strong names for a cat such as a Maine Coon (they are big beautiful cats, by the way.)

Hello, well.you could always try to make payment arrangements w/your local vet.If not maybe you you could put up a collection canister in your vets office to help ease some of the financial burden.Best Wishes & Be Blessed!

well putting him to sleep is definately NOT an answer...if you cant do it find someone who would be willing to take him and get the surgery done....did you ever think of applying for "Care Credit"? if you pay it off within 12 months you can get it interest free....go on the website-carecredit.com...its good for medical care financing...good luck and dont be afraid to get a 2nd opinion

I use CareCredit myself and found it to be a lifesaver when two of my cats came down with kidney failure and lymphoma requiring extensive treatments.
