My 10 year old sister is always saying she is sad and doesn't know why. She is depressed and see's a social worker. Today, her flip flops and mine were both wet so she went upstairs and got an old towel to dry them off. I dried mine and half the towel was damp. She was like "You got it wet, get a new one" and I told her that it would be fine. She screamed on the top of her lungs for me to get one and then threw my flip flops at the wall, ran upstairs and I heard something bang against the wall like 5 times. 5 minutes later, she came out and was totally fine and started having a convo with me like nothing happened. What is she...like bipolar? anger manangement? Help!!!

she is a young kid struggling to control her angry feelings. she does not know how to yet, and what you described sounded like a temper tantrum.
She would benefit from learning how to cope better with her angry feelings .

It could be that something is bothering her and she does not want to say anything, so she takes it out on anyone, but she must then realize she was wrong so she pretends nothing happened. Bipolar is also a good guess. i think u should just try and be a bit careful about what u say and how u say it so she wont throw another tantrum on you. Good luck!!! :)

My oldest son who is nine years old has been diagnosed with bipolar. I don't think your sister has bipolar, especially since it is hereditary.
You can learn more about bipolar by reading:

book: The Bipolar Child
author: Janice Papolos, M.D.

and

book: The Explosive Child
author: Ross W. Green PhD

From what I've seen of Bipolar in children, the suddenness is like Bipolar, but usually the tantrums last much longer. From what I've seen of anger in children, that is more like what angry children do.

Is she the baby of the family? Could she be "spoiled"? Spoiled children are depressed, because they are discouraged, in Adler's terms: they are not given sufficient responsibility & are babied. That's one hypothesis...

She seemed to get no external reinforcement from her behavior (from you), so that's good.

Has she been checked for temporal lobe seizures? They can cause odd behavior, like that.

Good question!

She may have hit puberty early and it was nothing more than a little hormonal flare up.
