It depends on the type of body armor and what it is rated for. If it is what the military wears with sapi plates, the answer is no. I met a Marine that took 3 hits from a AK-47 in the chest and still moved on with just bruises.

It will depend on the type of body armor you wear; I have heard of incidents where police officers are shot point blank range with a 45 and still survive while wearing a standard Class IIIA concealable vest.

Same goes for the Interceptor Vest; here's a video of a soldier in Iraq that's shot at close range with a 7.62x54R round from a Dragunov sniper rifle and the soldier collapses to the floor from the impact, then he jumps back up and runs for cover.

The worst injury he had was a bruise on his chest, but nothing more.

People break bones in the darndest, most trivial ways. Tripping & catching your fall on an outstretched hand frequently results in a wrist fracture. On the scale of things, the shot into body armor is unlikely to break a rib or anything else. The above-mentioned wrist fracture (while ducking to get the heck out of the line of fire) is more likely.

Depends on the body armor. They come in different weights and consistencies. Also depends where you get hit. Also depends on the weapon itself the bullet is fired from.

It matters where a soldier gets it. The ballistic plates are rated to stop a 7.92mm round, which is smaller than the 9mm but travels faster and has more penetration. The 9mm will not penetrate the ballistic plate on an IBA.

If it is just a simple kevlar vest it will hurt bad possibly internal injury but if its a vest with plates it will leave a bruise.
