Maybe they really are searching and desire to believe in the truth that there is a God? Maybe they are struggling with their doubts?

I think that could be it. Whatever the reason, I'm happy they come here and hopefully the truth will get through to them. I look at my posts on here as a way to evangelize people who are intelligent but who are lost and seeking God. If anything I say on here leads one person to accept Christ then I'll put up with the Christian-bashers. God bless :)

First of all, if an atheist is struggling with their doubts that actually makes them agnostic.

And secondly, why atheists? I mean, why not ask if Jews, Muslims, and Buddhists are confused and are really in search of Christianity's Truth? Isn't if funny how the world's religions can't agree on anything except when it comes atheists? Then, all religions stand side by side and agree that at the least there is "something" out there. Isn't it true? Don't you think that if you brought a boyfriend or girlfriend home to the parents that they would prefer a Jew to an atheist?

And isn't it funny that Christianity got where it is today by violently conquering weaker empires and that people on Yahoo! think it's rude for non-Christians to post harmless text on a harmless website?

I guess you think that the only ones that should use the Religion and Spirituality section should be christian? Do you think that just because someone doesn't believe in god means that they are not spiritual? I think most atheists are here because they have studied enough religion to choose none and actually know something about it. Just because the title says 'Religion' doesn't mean that you have to be religious to speak your mind here. Why does it bother you to have an open discussion with differing opinions? If you only want to talk to other christians then I am sure there are plenty of strictly christian forums that you can use. Yahoo is open to everyone. Some of us like diversity.

Well, now. Religion and Spirituality are not limited to Christianity.

I do consider myself to be a Christian and I know what that means. I am not so sure what atheism really means. Many folks while denying the existence of a personal God have made gods of other things: money, science, themselves, nature, etc.

There seems to be a component of our makeup that feels the need to believe in something.

Maybe they visit here to reinforce their own beliefs, may not.

All we can do is keep showing them where the answers are, we can't make them accept the evident reality of a supreme being.

Just a thought or two.

No, we come here so that we can show you the way of science and proof. Evolution is a fact, there is no supernatural being and teaching young children the fundamental parts of the Bible (specifically the old testament) is tantamount to child abuse.

That may sound harsh, but it's what I believe and if by coming to this forum, I can at least get one religious person to take their blinkers off for one second, then I have done a good deed for the day.

I would think of it as they have a thorn in their heart and are searching for a way to get it out, but that they are still in a state of rejecting truth, and so are not drawn to the light. To be drawn to light means one has willfully surrendered.

I think atheists come to R and S for some of the same reasons the theists do -they like to debate and they like to feel like they are right.

Perhaps also they like the idea of dragging someone out of religion into atheism, "converts" if you will.

As different as the perspectives of theists and atheists are here I'm willing to bet the reasons they are here are quite similar.

...or maybe our Atheist Love(TM), that inexpressible thing that causes us to stop jawing about invisible things we'd LIKE to be real, and get down to the dirty work of actually INCREASING MAN'S COMFORT AND HAPPINESS, motivates us to save you from the brink before your lips touch the Dixie-cup full of that cyanide Kool-Aid your Christian leader wants you to drink...

The amazement and wonder of no-God, that self-evident thing we see out to 78 billion light-years, is truly wondrous to behold. Sometimes when the spirit of no-God moves across my body, and I feel sheer rapture at the fact we live in a 100% material, MOSTLY explainable universe, I start to shake and collapse and my tongue loses control and I start doing something we Atheists call Speaking in English(TM). It is an amazing No-Spin Zone of Direct Truths, something hard to achieve in the best of times. At first the phrases are short and simple, like, "Nothing unreal exists." but then gets more and more detailed including Atheist prophecy like, "The Atheist Scientists of the Future will develop Eternal Life and only give it to trusted, non-fanatic, non-violent Atheists as the religious corpses continue to rot."

Speaking in English, coming to an Atheist Revival near you!

Maybe most atheists have already tried religion and aren't "searching" for anything in particular?

Maybe atheists are quite content with their position?

Maybe you should read the responses to the other questions you posted today, regarding why atheists are here?

They are struggling with the ever rising death toll from killing in the name of God, and the so-called religious people who just look the other way and pretend that it never happened.
