there used to be a little kiosk near times square in NYC...a deli...and it had a little japanese machine that made wonderful little cream filled pastries. I am trying to find where that little machine went, and who makes it.
The pastries were about the size of a small biscuit and were filled with either vanilla creme or chocolate creme. The machine had cast iron molds and automated injectors and it cooked the pastries as it rolled through the machine.

There are non-automated types that you can get from Japanese markets, the mold is in the shape of a fish and is used like a waffle maker and when the pastry is mostly cooked on both sides you put in your filling (like red bean paste or vanilla custard) then close the iron and finish baking. Good Luck!
