I've gotten many credit line increases this way:
1. Call them up
2. Ask what you can do to get a credit line increase
3. Request that they increase without doing a "hard pull" (credit inquiry, will lower your score a little)
4. If you have paid on time for 2 years, they would be crazy not to approve your limit increase. Tell them exactly how much you are looking for in the increase.
*** If needed: tell them you want to cancel the card unless you get the credit line increase. Risky, but its worked for me before****

ARE YOU INSANE? Cut up the card and never use it again. Use cash or a debit card for everything. The credit card company gave you a "student card" because, no matter what they tell you to your face, they think you are stupid. You probably got a free t-shirt with that card that you opened at a little stand outside a football stadium. That free t-shirt will cost you thousands of dollars over a large number of years. I know, I know, you say you pay it off every month. That will end sometime and you will start carrying a balance. That is exactly what the card issuers want. They know this. You will be enslaved to them for years. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE pick up a book called the Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. This will explain how they prey on young, financially stupid students. If your a student, you probably have no more than a part time job that does not pay very much. Do you think it is a smart idea to give a credit card with a high limit to a student without a substantial income to pay it back? It is only smart for the bank. Think about it. They know you will trip up and start carrying a balance, thus interest payments. Do yourself the greatest favor you can and get rid of that thing and stay out of debt. Stop buying crap to impress friends and crap you don't need. Trust me. I've been there. And, read the book. It will change your life and you will be a better, more well off person for it.

If you have been paying off your credit card and have good credit, you won't have a problem getting an increase. Just call them up and ask. You might also want to ask them if there are other cards available that have a higher than $500 credit limit since yours "might" be a starter card.

It doesn't hurt to ask! They won't always automatically increase your card, there may be other factors that they are looking at that you don't know about. If you use online banking, there is a link after you log in that will allow you to ask for an increase online. It takes about 5 minutes to fill out the information. I got an answer and an increase back right away. Good luck!

just because you bought another car, does not mean you have good credit, it just means you qualify for credit.. you did not state at what rate the loan for the car is.. and any other outstanding debt or open accounts you have, what you age is, what your income is, what you occupation is...
all these will factor into increasing or denying an increase in your credit line for you CC.

Fastest way to get your credit limit increased is to pay the card off in full every month. They increase your limit automatically every year or so.

If you have been paying the bill in full, they will usually raise it automatically.
Otherwise, call them and ask for an increase.
