and no bail was set. I live in michigan so they (HD) had 72 hours to charge me. Well they didn't send a charge or a warrant to the jail/court (or whomever) so I was released after the 72 hours. They told me that it would be under further investigation. Can they still charge me? Will they?

I have NOTHING on my records as this is my first offense. Should I be okay?

Do I just wait for them to contact me or is this over?

It's my impression that Michigan law is similar to that of most other states.

When dealing with a theft, the seriousness of the offense is based upon the value of the property taken.

When exceeding a specific amount...the offense then becomes a felony offense.

In my own jurisdiction a felony case will be presented to a Grand Jury and THEN if the Grand Jury "true bills" or finds sufficient evidence to prosecute the case....a warrant for an arrest be issued. This would be referred to as a Grand Jury Warrant or a Grand Jury Indictment!

If you have further questions, feel free to email me directly.

Best wishes.

Well in Germany You wouldn't go to jail for stealing goods worth US-$ 1300 (EUR 1000,-), You would get probation. Germany is a paradise for criminals.

But in case You have stolen, then do a self-indictment (after consulting Your lawyer). And don't steal anything never ever in the future in case You get out of this without jail!

YES they can still charge you. The infortunate thing is if and when they do you will not be notified. They will simply issue a warrant for your arrest and you will be picked up and booked on the charges.

Whoa - that isn't a good thing at all. Why would you do something like that and jeopardize your work history for anywhere you would work?

I am not sure what will happen, but I would wait for them to contact you, or call an attorney and ask for some advise.

Good luck!

You wait. Them contacting you is a bad thing. You may have no prior history, but embezzlement is a serious crime, with some serious time. Pray they don't find out anymore information.

Ummmm, you better get an attorney to make sure your record stays clean. If you did steal, then do the right thing and tell the truth.
