Or are all of the supposedly chosen ones treated in the same manner despite some having been better Christians on earth? Is it not possible that the "squeakers" into heaven will not have as many perks as the truly pious and devote folks? Would it seem fair or unfair if Gods plan involves a new Caste system in the afterlife? Won't that be a surprise?

I don't think God plays favorites on earth or in Heaven.

Whether a person is "truly" saved or not is ONLY KNOWN BY GOD. And it is my OPINION (since I am NOT God) that those who think they are capable of making this judgement on Earth, may have to answer for it at the gates of Heaven.

I absolutely believe that there will be differential "rewards" in heaven based on what a person chose to do with his or her earthly life. However, I have no idea what they could be or how the differences will manifest themselves there. Will it be degrees (like belts in Tae Kwon Do), will it be a caste system? Probably not because those are systems that we can imagine and the bible tells me that God's home is beyond our imagination (beyond our comprehension).

I do believe that God DOES promise rewards for following his instructions on earth...and that some, but not all, of those rewards are heavenly in nature. Jesus talked about storing up treasures in heaven by following his instructions...but to attach a description to those rewards using earthly perceptions and terminology is to add words to his testimony...sorry, no can do. I have no doubt that heaven will be a surprise on some level, but I trust God's word that it will be a good one for everyone that accepts his invitation.

there is no place i am aware of in the Christian scriptures that speaks of degrees in heaven; on the other hand, to reverse the question: are there degrees of punishment depending upon how evil and wicked one is? this seems very likely as "the wages of sin is death"(spiritual death); ... wages are something one earns; so i don't think there will be degrees for the good, only the evil.

There's no "better" or "worse" Christian. There is either truly saved, or not saved at all.
