My husband and I are looking to start monitoring our credit and we are looking for a safe, reputable website that gives your credit scores and credit reports for a decent price. We are going to buy a house in December and our bank (Bank of America) told us to make sure that everything is accurate on our credit reports before they pull it. Any suggestions???

Also, do you think all three is necessary? Do you know which one Bank of America uses? Out of the three, is there one that is better than the others?

Go to the http://www.annualcreditreport.com and get your free credit report from the three major credit report provider (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion). You can get a sense of their format so pick the one that you like from there.

Note that the free report gives you the details and not your credit score so you will have to pay for that.

Get a copy of your credit report and review it yourself. If there are any errors, dispute them with the credit bureau. If there are any negatives, negotitate settlement. That is what Bank of America was telling you to do. You don't need to pay for some monthly monitoring service, That's a waste of money.

You should also take this time to pay off the credit cards. It will make your score better and NOT having debt looks better to mortgage company.

First, I would pull your reports from annualcreditreport.org. This is a free goverment sponsered site that allows you to get one report a year free from each of the three credit agencies. Then set up with one like free credit report.com (Yeah the free part is a crock, but they are reputable).
