There IS such a thing as braces that go behind your teeth---they are referred to as
Lingual Braces. But, you really have to look around for an Orthodontist that even does this. Also, the cost is usually a lot more than traditional braces. I had these on my bottom teeth. The major problem was that my tongue often got cut up and was irritated. I've heard that other problems is that they can create a lisp, you cannot grind your teeth together and the cost can be doubled that of standard braces. Don't expect all Orthodontists to do these sort of braces, they are pretty specialized. The people who generally would get them were those who depended on their teeth to show---like models and actors.
Standard braces today are much improved from years ago. You can have the appliance glued to your teeth (that's what they do in the back of your teeth as well), but the doc can use clear metal so your braces are not as noticeable. They can also use clear bands and metal.
I had both. The bottom were behind and the top were on the outside. My orthodontist said I only needed a few teeth aligned on the bottom and that is why they opted for this type. It was much easier to get used to "traditional" braces.

In the end, my plain normal metal braces were a total of 3000. I think anything else as a substitute for metal ones will be expensive and I just don't see the point with metal wires and brackets having a possibility of falling off and there only on for 1 and half years if you take care of your teeth. Your dentist knows, talk to them. No, if you have bad teeth, chances are you'll need and get it on top and bottom. You have to do it to all your teeth for they all take part in a straight smile. It's awkward and it hurts but it really worth it. Once you finally get your retainer life will be smooth move.

I have braces behind my two front teeth in order to keep them together. However, I still had to wear the front braces for the duration of 6 months. I am not aware if a type of brace can go behind your teeth to fully correct dental problems beforehand.

There is something called Invisalign, which is an invisible, removable set of braces. And no, I don't think there are behind the teeth braces. But ask your orthodontist about Invisalign...

I haven't seen them all tho that doesn't mean they don't exist. I know they have Invisaline braces now. I have also seen a permanently attached retainer on the inside of a persons teeth.

Yes, they do make braces that go behind your teeth, but you risk cutting your tongue more offen, and there are also those new ones, Invisalign, that are clear trays that you change every couple of weeks.

Sometimes those clear plastic ones work, too -- not the ones for whitening your teeth but custom ones made specifically for straightening your teeth.

yes there are braces you can wear behind your teeth...they cost more and are harder to maintain and adjust...

Invisalign are clear..you wear them on the front, but you can't really see them...and yes they do work..

YES, THESE ARE CALLED LINGUAL BRACES. FEW ORTHODONTISTS DO THESE, AS THEY ARE MORE DIFFICULT to PLACE AND COST MORE TO DO.
