when I was a kid, I really expected more.

is our time on this planet truly destined to be stolen by work and other obligations?

What could be better than working for your life? Did you really expect to grow up and just get everything you ever wanted? Do some work, make some money, and then you can enjoy that money. What could be better?

Only if you let it. You have free will to choose, if you want more time to do anything you want-buy a one way ticket to the Washington State Woods and you'll be totally free, make your own decisions, find your own food--no microwave there. If you truly believe that your life is being 'stolen' by a job, join the Peace Corps, if only I were young enough I would. I didn't expect anything as a kid. I was surprised morning came. You know why. I love my freedom, even tho I have to pay for electric lights (I thought God said let there be light-He didn't say a word about the bill) I am sooooo happy to be here, right now, on earth and not see bombs and hummers going down the street, unless that is I turn on the tv. You could go down and live under a bridge, take a bath in a gas station rest room and go to work. Or you could just live there and have no obligations or work. You are so pretty, you'd have no problem finding an enabler, someone to take care of you, like in prison. I learned a great deal the day I watched the movie: Ironweed 1988 movie yet timeless.

The way I think of it:
there is a real world out there, Nature, Life, the sun rising and setting. mankind falling in love, creating technology to shelter and to share with other humans
and then there is also an artificial overlay upon what we meet here when we awaken from our dreams: governments, religions, media - TV movies, Education - oriented towards having you join the artificial overlay rather than develop a self that could contribute your own greatness, etc on and on

You speak of destiny
What I am led to speak of by your question is my view of our destiny at this time on this planet
for I firmly believe.............
that the artificial overlay that so many are subject to, that so any could not even survive without, that so many dont even know is our own artificial overlay rather than what this earth actually is
.................... is gonna go through a few far reaching earthquakes of it's own

Lots of people are 'expecting more' even clearly observing the work and other obligations

If I were you I would take a few days off
pack like a small amount of snack food so you get to know what your tummy keeps demanding a bit clearly
go somewhere so that all you can observe is nature
(if you have to get up at 5AM and go find a deserted space in a park well go do that- a cooperative neighbor's yard would be safer LOL)
ponder!
suppose that artificial overlay that we all live off of like the wall of equipment in the intensive care department of the hospital
were to stop nourishing us as Mother Nature Gaia is capable of nourishing us
..........you think of it now reading this but believe me you will think more when you look at the snack food in your backpack and wonder if any of those weeds out there in nature are edible
There is more t-bone
and even more to come

but you are responsible for yourself if you are old enough to ask that type of question
what do you want
and what do you have
and what have you been chasing and why
if it all changes how prepared are you to jump in and assit with creating a culture?
what will you bring to the table?

The life throbbing in your heart and the air filling your lungs is the same as what Einstein had, the same as Buddha had,
You are the same stuff Alexander Graham Bell as,....
how many names I could put in there

Your name could be remembered for a thousand years! ever think of that?

The truth is out there
misinformation is everywhere

dont you ever give up dude
those who questioned are doing a lot these precious days while so much is still possible

Thats a very good question T-bone, I dont know if you have a bible but I will just tell you some scriptures and give you the gist of what they say and you can look it up yourself, if you want.
This is not all there is , Revelation 21:3,4 shows that soon god is going to wipe out every tear and death and pain will be no more.
Gods original purpose for the earth was that adam and eve fill the earth and live forever on it which is shown at Genisis 1:28 . But because of adam and eves sin , imperfection spread to all of mankind and so now we get sick and die and only live for about 70 or 80 years... but Psalms 37:29 says 'The righteous themselves will possess the earth and they will reside FOREVER upon it'
God wanted us to enjoy our time on the earth and didnt want it to be 'stolen by work and other obligations' like you said. and we see that all this will come true because at Isaiah 55:11 it says 'So my word that goes forth from my mouth will prove to be. It will not return to me without results, but it will certainly do that in which I have delighted and it will have certain success in that which I have sent it'
And then another scripture which backs this up is Hebrew 6:18 '....It is impossible for God to lie...'

I hope this helped answer your question.

other than reduction in celebrity news, television viewing, poverty elimination to stop global warming, impacts of military on environment impactg study rejection of warfare yes this is it.As line from movie states ''Life is pain and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something''. They have already completed the sale in their minds before they buy all that remains to be done is to convince them to buy. The product includes money, jobs, merchandise. there could be less pain with doing things you want not because you are compelled but because you want to such as occasionally fix something because it needs to be done not primarily for monetary gain. Survival is The It this is more important even than the economy which is an artificial construct. people are not walking bags of wealth or wealth generaters . The wealthy themselves are more than that as well. It is strange to think of the value placed on minerals that it actually means something to hand over coins and bills to someone. That paper or mineral coins can be something to kill over or pay for sex. even have sex to gain power from some accounts. this makes no sense why would someone do this with a King,President ,or Politician. Even being President means nothing because all the posturing and power games fell empty and in the end being President is no big deal. If a person was God it would still feel empty as God like the President has a thought which crosses the mind there must be more. The President might also think all this travel all these jets portrayed in movies all these lunches how rude I must appear to others eating before a starving man. I am so very powerfull and can do nothing even when elected I should like other hypocrites which exist beyond the borders of My country do something but am weak like all the others. Conservation of Universe protection of people from mockery when undeserved is all I can think of. these thoughts might cross the minds of people at the G8 or those of buisness men. This and worry that resources will run out and discussion on if to let them or preservation.

I found this because a friend left a hello.

I find myself asking the same question. Till I was 40 I had an average life. I was actually kinda happy.

Electronics tech. Wife. House. 2 kids. Nothing I did was "special". But I was happy. Things weren't perfect. And they didn't need to be.

There is a part of me that wants to say. DON'T DO IT! DON'T LOOK! Be grateful you don't know yet.

I am not warning you of the darkness you might see. I actually warning you that you might start to spiritually evolve. If you do that now you might inherit more responsibility than you can POSSIBLY imagine.

I OFTEN find myself yearning and aching for a "simple" life.

So , YES. Yes this is it. For the sake of freedom you have but don't appreciate.

This is it.

:::hiccup:::

Scusi. Me Sorry.
Ok, well let's see.

From a real world point of view, life sucks because of the way society is, and the way the world structure is. We're merely pawns in it. You're a slave to it one way or another, so you might as well choose how you want to be enslaved. Choose your misery lol.

It sucks but it's how it is.

Religious answer: Satanic forces are trying to make our lives here as un-godly as possible, and devise ways in which to do that.

I won't go on that though, that's too unpopular and controversial.

But then again, if you were Satan, you'd be kind of proud how screwed up this world was and you'd applaud it for all that it's become.

When I was a kid, I didn't think.

Therefore, I'm not AS disappointed I don't think.

T-Bone, it will be okay!

What did you expect? Work and other obligations are the most important thing in this world and it is what keeps humanity living on.

This is the world man has created for himself. There are ways to live without working, or without working a whole lot, but most of them do not involve having a lot of money either. The few that do are usually due to luck or unusual talent (like winning the lottery or being a famous musician or actor or playing "professional" sports. And even most of those require a lot of work to develop that skill (except the lottery one, of course). Anyway, your life is what you make of it.

Sweetheart... you make me smile in a sad way. There is a great deal of what you describe. Then, out of the blue comes an experience so indescribable, so mystical, that you can barely wrap your head around it.

I know you've had at least one. You wouldn't be who you are otherwise. Youth has you expecting them more and more often. When you look back from age, you'll find yourself feeling grateful they waited in between exposures. It gives you some time to catch up.

I am reminded of a line from the Big Chill,"No one ever told me life was supposed to be fun". I know what you mean T-Bone,when I was younger, traveling from country to country, life was insanely rich. Now that I'm in one place, working six days a week,it has lost it's magic. I guess this is it.
