There are so many ads for fairness creams that show dark people being depressed and sad. Why are more people racist towards darker-skinned people rather than lighter-skinned people?

The commercials I have seen were in India. They always show the girls getting the job or being more happier when they are lighter.

I hate it when I read people being so judgmental. What's wrong with wanting to have a light skin color?

When someone wants to be a shade lighter, they accuse that person of being racist and tell her/him to be proud of their race. But when someone naturally white wants to have darker skin tone, people advice him/her on tanning lotions and the best tricks to look darker. Isn't it the same thing? Some people say bleaching creams damage the skin, which is true; but what about the tanning beds? The over-exposure to UV rays can cause skin cancer and other skin diseases. It's the same exact thing.

By the way, to answer your question: there's no problem with having dark or light skin, is just the way you are. Both skin tones can look extremely beautiful, for example Tyra Banks or Iman and beauty icons like Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn. All of them are beautiful women, and the skin color has nothing to do with it.

Nothing is wrong with dark skin. It's the "grass is greener" syndrome at work. Many dark people want to be lighter because they believe that they would be more attractive and treated better if they were lighter. Many light people want to be darker because they believe that they would be more attractive and treated better if they were darker.

Where I live, all of the ads are for tanning creams. I have never seen an ad for a lightening cream. Where I live light people are disadvantaged and discriminated against and dark people are advantaged and welcomed.

Perhaps you just live in the wrong place for you, as I do for me.

I don't think there's anything wrong with "dark skin".I'm dark skinned and people tell me im pretty and say that i should be a model.I wonder sometimes if 2 girls(one light-skinned but ugly and the one dark but pretty) are standing ,who people would look at,??People are just obsessed with lighter skin because it is closer to white.I wish that all that could change bu i dont think it is going to.

I love dark skin i think it is very attractive. It's just advertisements it doesn't mean there is anything with wrong with dark skin.. That is why they show dark people being upset and stuff so that you will feel there is something wrong with you and buy their product.. Brown is beautiful. Don't worry about it and never fall into the whole advertisement scam.
Hope i could help.

Well said. What indeed is wrong with being black or white or any other colour under the sun.

In this day and age for prejudice against the colour of ones skin to exist is quite sad. At the end of the day we are all humans and have the same colour blood. We are the same except for our outward appearances. What gives anyone the right to dislike another just because of how dark or fair they are.

It pleases me to see people of all ages and shapes and sizes and colour on body cream adverts where I live in the UK. Why can't India follow suit?

that does seem strange doesn't it? But there is a good side and a bad side to both skin colors.
Dark skinned people have a harder time absorbing Vitamin D. So in cold climates and where they are indoors a lot and not exposed to the sun they don't do so well. They can get anemic and lots of bad things.
But in hot climates and out in the sun they do well. The meline in their skin protects them from harmful sun rays.
Light skinned people do not do well in hot climates where they have very little protection from the sun. they can get skin cancer and all sorts of bad things. But the lack of melinian in their skin makes it easy for them to absorbe vitamin D.
the bottom line put light skinned people in the northern most climates inside most of the time and they do well. They are better adapted to snow and ice for some reason.
But put dark skinned people closer to the equator where they do better. In the hot sun.

There is no wrong in being live with dark skin. I'm sorry to say that u are mistaken that lighter skin people are more happy than darker ones in India. In fact, real Indians doesn't give importance to skin color. They'll give importance to Beauty of Heart only. Commercial ads only give importance to their sales upgradation. Don't misunderstand them. ok... bye...

Skin lightening is all Indian people think about. It is like a national sport to them and anyone would think they were taught skin lightening subjects at primary school the way they go on and on and on about it. They cannot be white, yet seem to pray every day to be so. Pure self-hatred!!

All you ever hear is excuses from Indians as to why they want to be fairer.. ALL LIES. they want to be fair as they think it will make them look white. They seem to think that being white is simply a matter of changing your colour and not your features. Indian features are nothing like white peoples features!!

This is why I do not like Indian people. They try to be something they are not and are therefore deceptive. They discriminate against dark skinned people in their own country and then people like Shilpa Shetty come to the UK and cry "racism".

I say leave the Indians to lighten their skin and we can all laugh at them trying to look white and never succeeding!

Well, it is a traditional mindset that some people have that being fair is beautiful. It's not really racism. People want to look beautiful and being fair is termed as the ideal look. Some people are fine being dark. The media wants to sell a product so they use such ads to create more delusions in the mind of consumers. Honestly, it's just a part of life.

There is nothing wrong with dark skinned. In Europe and US, people prefer tanned skinned people. It is better health wise to have darker skin because it reduces your chances of skin cancer.
