The cross is symbolic of what Jesus went through to secure our salvation. The display of a cross is sort of a reminder or a proclaiming of what Jesus did. I see it as being similar to displaying the American flag. It's what it represents, what it stands for, and what it means. A church doesn't have to display a cross, it's not a must, but why not display it? I would hope they don't feel displaying a cross detracts or reduces the appeal of the setting. And, I hope they are not fearing that displaying a cross will offend someone. It's a church. The Bible teaches that the church is the body of Christ. Christ saved us by the giving of His body unto death. Death on a cross !! It's a cross, a Christian symbol...displaying such is proper.

The symbol isn't important so much as what was done on that cross. My church doesn't have any crosses displayed in it, since we focus on the good things about the crucifixion and resurrection. The cross was only one part of a whole, not the main event.

It is the universally recognized symbol of Christianity.
The cross is very important because it proclaims Christ's saving death and resurrection.

Untill about 130 years ago most non Lutheran Protestant Churches did not have crosses.
I think that displaying the cross is logical for Christian churches

My church meets in my house, and we have no cross...find me a place in the Bible where it says that I have to display a cross and I will.

All we need is our Bible, the word of God...the cross is just that: a symbol...a remembrance if you will. If the Government made it illegal to have crosses displayed, it would not affect our faith at all...but it would say a lot about the state of the country.

the cross it's a symbol was used first of all for the catholicism together with the fish,. the protestant churches took this symbol.. it might be confused to see what is a catholic church or any other kind of church.. but as catholic we use images and pictures of saints.. we dont need to use a cross for a church.. we know we belong to the truth church we know we are the church has survived for many years and we still alive

Jesus Christ died for us all... for any Christian, that's a given.

I think that the thing to remember is that He isn't dead- "Why seek ye the living among the dead?"

To me, the symbol of the cross is a macabre reminder of a glorious gift... kind of an odd juxaposition.

There is no symbol of the cross ever mentioned in the Bible. The Bible says "thou shalt not make unto you any graven image of anything that is in heaven above or on earth below." Many churches do not have crosses on them, and refuse to do so.

I wouldnt think it was bad. After all, we dont worship the cross, but the one who died on it. The cross is merely a symbol of the sacrifice he gave so that we all could live.

Death by crucifixion was one of the most painful experiences imaginable, and Jesus' suffering on the cross was far more agonizing that anything most of us will ever have to endure.

But Jesus' physical suffering was only a sign of a much deeper kind of suffering He was enduring: the suffering of His spirit. When Jesus died, the face of His heavenly Father was hidden, and He was torn from the presence of God. He who had enjoyed unbroken fellowship with His Father in heaven from all eternity now faced Hell itself. This was His real agony—an agony far deeper than that which any other person has ever endured.

Why did He have to endure so much suffering? The reason is because all our sins were placed on Him, and when He suffered and died He was taking upon Himself the punishment we deserve. You and I only deserve judgment and hell—but He took our judgment and hell upon Himself. The Bible says, "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us" (2 Corinthians 5:21). He took your place!

Why did He do this? He did it because of love! He loves us, and He wants us to spend eternity with Him in heaven. Sin is serious—so serious that it sent Jesus to the cross. But God's love is greater, and because of Jesus' death and resurrection we can be saved. Turn to Christ and accept Him into your life today.
