I'm 20. O.K. I've discovered that there isn't a cure for this yet, but maybe I can discover a natural cure. Whenever I am under a great amount of stress, nervous, my apocrine glands tend to release this horrible odor. It can stink up an entire room. Gross. My doctors thought that I was mental(schizophrenic), but the fact is that they hadn't heard of this problem. I"m like a SKUNK. Why is it that people like me survived? It's a way my body tells me that I am in emotional or physical danger. When I was a few years younger I tried to commit suicide because of this. I attempted to clean and rub every part of my body with alcohol, but the odor remained. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. It is HORRIBLE to FEEL like an OUTCASTE and to be treated like your not clean. Guys think I'm beautiful, but over time when they find that I am giving off this odor, they ignore me. I don't accept others into my life anymore and do not plan to have a boyfriend in the future. It's painful.

I can imagine what you must be going thru. All I can say is there was a girl in high school who had this...or something like it...and she had a boyfriend. I'm pretty sure she got married. Do you have any Indian in you? I knew somebody who was an (American) Indian and she said that they smell different from other people. Keep looking for an answer. There's a tv show..I think it 's Medical Diagnosis...or Miracle Diagnosis....where people have problems and the doctors can't diagnose it...but they keep on looking and searching and eventually find the answer. Don't give up...just keep searching...and get some good perfume...spray it on your clothes too. Good Luck.

I've heard of something like this before. If it is a real smell (can others smell it?) and it smells like fish, there is a name for it but I don't know what it is. Do more research for that avenue. If it's excessive sweat, you can actually get botox injections into the armpits (and I guess other areas) that significantly reduces the sweat production. I saw that on Oprah. Otherwise, maybe find a guy that has a reduced sense of smell. There seem to be a bunch out there. This might get better as you get older. In the meantime, look for specialists. An endocrinologist sounds like a good start. Are you sure the guys ignore you because they think you smell bad? At that age, it seems like all boys ignore girls after awhile anyway. Please try to be kind to yourself. It's not your fault.

There are a number of glands like this. There are a number of conditions like this. And there are treatments for this.

Since these glands are in the skin, seek a dermatologist who can help you treat this. You might have to have a laser Rx type of treatment or some type of chemical-gland cell-damaging medication, but it is treatable.

There are also conditions where people sweat with water pouring off them, it seems to them. And that's treatable.

Once you find the right doctor, you'll be fine.

Have you researched this on the internet? It seems to me I have heard of something like this before. I'm sure there's something that can be done. I will research for you and come back if I can find something out.

i would try seeing an endocrinologist if you havent already. they deal with homones and stuff; and you might try one that's afiliated with a university. i've heard people talk about b complex vitamins to help with anxiety. i suppose antidepressants dont help with your stress level and help with this odor problem? i wish you much luck

So just solve the stress factor. Stress is created by resistance to what is happening. So....

You can surrender your resistance to life, and so drop the stress factor.
That is the solution.

Your doctors were on the right track.

The smell is in your mind's eye. It isn't real. I understand that it's very real to you. The fact of the matter is, though, that others do not smell it.

The way to relieve yourself of this problem is to take anti-psychotic medication (e.g., zyprexa, seroquel), and to participate in psychotherapy.
