It barks, howls, and runs about the house and won't be quiet till the call ends. others in the family can take calls no problem. Any ideas what she do to change the dog's behaviour?

Thanks for the answers so far. I should have been more clear - the dog does it for the duration of the call, not just while it's ringing. Her owner has changed phones/ringtones ot no avail. It seems to be that the dog can't bear not to be the focus of her owner's attention. It's not in distress - more a high state of excitement.

LEASH the dog, yes IN THE HOUSE. have someone go outside and call. Have the dog lay or sit before phone rings and don't answer. keep the dog laying or sitting until it stops ringing. Keep doing this until dog sits or lays quietly until phone stops ringing. Next in sit or lay position, answer, ALL HUMANS STAY CALM this is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. repeat, repeat, no praise, .no treats just repeat with consistancy until it sits or lays quietly through out all calls.

U answered your own question. Sounds like the dog is jealous of the cell phone and the time the owner spends on it. This is a training issue. Perhaps she should put the dog out side in the yard during the call. If the dog is trained to sit and stay then the dog needs to put into the command until the owner is done. Do not reward the dog by paying attention to it, feeding it, petting it. If the dog sleeps with her, she may need to NOT ALLOW the dog to sleep with her until it gets the idea she is the boss not the dog.

Poor dog!

A dog's ears are far more sensitive than a human's. And the mobile phone is probably making a sound that hurts his ears.

I do have two suggestions:

1) Close him in another room when the phone rings. Hopefully the walls will absorb the sound.

2) Get a different model of mobile phone, one that won't make the sound that drives the dog bonkers.

Good luck!

I know this will sound crazy, but put the dog on leash, and have plenty of treats. She needs to let the phone ring and continue to pet and talk to her dog and ignoring the phone eventually, it will stop ringing. Do it again and again and again until the ringing of the phone is a pleasant experience for the dog and his human.

Make the dog associate the phone ringing with a pleasant thing. For instance, when the phone rings, give him a little treat. He will eventually realize that when the phone rings, something good happens to him.

It's the pitch of the ringing. Change the ring so the dog can tolerate it

It could be the pitch of the ring tone she has. It may hurt his ears and he doesn't like it. Tell her to change her ring tone. Then the dog will be more plesant.
