She should be a little happy and concerned. Rates of having babies over 35 to 40 is a little risky. Espially with twins! I mean she should take a little more extra care than a mom to be under 35 would. She should excercise, eat a very nutrious diet everyday of her pregnancy. She should listen to her prenatal Doctor very closely. Espiaclly of how far she is in her pregnancy. Oh and congrats to your mom!

Oh my, she should be very concerned! The chances of having a baby with genetic abnormalities is something like 1 in 13 at age 40 and goes up, WAY up from there. She should probably accept every test they offer her (quad screen, ammnio, etc) so she can be properly prepared for what may come. She also needs to take extra care of herself- a 54 year old body is not designed to birth children, she is at very increased risk of bone density issues- make sure she takes lots of calcium. She also needs to take care of herself so she lives a very long time- she will be 72 when these babies graduate from highschool.
Good luck to her!

Goes without saying that 54 is not exactly the best reproduction age for a woman. And with twins too! Quite incredible really.

If your mother is healthy, there is nothing to worry about. Just make sure she follows her doctor's orders and takes it easy. I did a search a found a website that might interest you and your mother. It is called pregnancyafter50. Check it out. Best wishes

She should eat a healthy nonfat diet, drink plenty of water, and exercise daily (walking). She should try to gain the minimum amount of weight that her doctors recommend. And, of course, she should take her prenatal vitamins everyday.

yes, she should be worried. it's very likely that her kids could have down syndrome or some other chromosome related illness. Also it is very dangerous for her health.
