You need to file a police report, that's the only legal way to get this started.

They can check with the post office for a forwarding address on the people, or you can contact the landlord if they rented, to see what forwarding address was given.

Have proof the cat was yours (vet records, photos, adoption papers) when you go in to the police. Give them a statement and copies of your 'proof'. This is a stolen property thing and the only way they'll back you up is if you do this properly.

Cats will get attached to you and if you treated it well they will easily find their way back. Problems will only occur if this stupid cat theif couple are feeding and loving the cat.
Did it have a name tag? Where was it insured? Will ringing the cat insurance help?

Find out where they live, using either the Land Registry or Electoral Register.

Stake out the place with some tuna and a cat basket. Your cat should recognise you, so you shoud get him/her back.

Is your cat microchipped? Does he have any identifying marks? If the answer to both these questions is 'yes', then you have a case because you can prove ownership. If not, then you can only appeal to them directly for the return of your cat.

Do you have a picture of your cat? Because you could hand it to the police, they might be able to find it!! If you know quite a bit of info about your cat, then it might prove that it is your cat. But definately contact the police, it might help!?!?!?

GOOD LUCK!!

Seek Help through law enforcement but be prepared to prove your ownership of that kitty. A statement from your neighbors stating that they knew it was your cat and perhaps a photo of you and the kitty together will help.

Also you must be able to provide information of the whereabouts of these people. That would aid you in your investigation.

Good Luck!
