Mr. Jello..as usual we are on the same page. Keep up the fight. The moment the government takes one of our tax dollars for "manmade global warming" the flood gates will open and the power hungry politicians will feast on the working people of our country and suck us dry for something they cannot, and will not be able to, prove.

Global warming is, as has been stated in some of the answers here, a HOAX. Probably the biggest ever. Why, you ask, do I say this? Well let me tell you why.
When I was a kid in the late 70's I remember reading a Reader Digest while waiting in the Dr's office. In this Digest was an article stating that we were about to enter an ice age. And just how bad that would be. As a kid of probably only 9-10 yrs old, this scared me. Looking back on it now, around the same time we did have a couple of winters in which we had tons of snow. Maybe, if I remember correctly even some record snowfalls. So, having record snowfalls in my area (Missouri). I'm sure that other areas were too.
Now isn't that a great reason to claim "New Ice Age".
Of course as you know, there was no "Ice Age", in the 70's or 80's. But what do you bet that the govt was throwing money at these "scientists" to come up with a solution. Just like they do now. Except now they call it "Global Warming". What do you bet that some of the same "scientists" are behind this one.
And of course the media and politicians are on the band wagon. Telling us just how bad it's gonna get.
In my opinion, I think that it's very pompous of we humans to think that we can destroy something that God created.
Thanks for letting me rant.

Correct, just a normal cyclical thingamajigger. The high temperatures we're experiencing have nothing to so with "global warming," otherwise known as the greatest hoax in mankind. There’s actually a whole United Nations organization focused on this hoax called the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Just imagine how much money we are giving away to these people. Money that could be used to drive my Hummer a few extra miles.
Now I know what you are thinking. Why would the United Nations want to trick the public to believe that there is such a thing as global warming? It’s simple. They want to trick us so the IPCC can get more funding. Noticed any IPCC climatologists buying up yachts and riding in stretch limos lately? I know I have. This is because the more we fund the IPCC the more money their fat cat scientists get.
The best thing we can do is ignore all these claims that the IPCC spews out a mile a minute. Claims like “There are increased concentrations of greenhouse gases in the air due to recent human activity," “Greenhouse gases cause an increase in the global temperature,” and “Increases in global temperature are lowering the productivity of landscapes and speeding up soil erosion.”
I mean what do they really know anyway? They’re just scientists. If I think global warming doesn’t exist who’s to tell me differently. And if I want to that think the United Nation’s IPCC is forming a huge conspiracy on global warming to get more funding who’s to say I’m wrong?
Yours in truth,
Not Stephen Colbert

That is a very valid point and that is one reason i am reluctent to buy in to man made global warming. I mean it warmed up after the ice age and we did nothing to make that occur. I read somewhere that the Earth is always in a warming or cooling spell it just turns out that we are in a warming spell now.
Also to Patrick you said "um, showing a graph that spans 420000 years does not allow good resolution for the last 100 years. "
100 years is not enough time to show the real trend of the whole temperature since history began. If you look at the graph you can clearly see that it does go up and down at times. It is therefor inferable that it will at some point go down again. saying that 100 years out of 420000 years is like fliping a coin once and it lands on heads and then you say it always lands on heads becasue i tested the data. That is what 100 years is out of 420000 years honestly not enough data to support a claim.

showing a graph that spans 420000 years does not allow good resolution for the last 100 years. Once you increase resolution you will notice that yes, it has been hotter (according to estimates from isotopic ratios found in ice taken from one part of the world) in the last 420,000 years, but no, the temperature has not increased as quickly as it has in the last 100. Then of course is the part about co2 being higher now than at any time in the last 420000 years (which happens to be the time limit of the vostok samples)
get a better res graph, look at the biggest increase, notice this took 15000 years to complete for a steady increase reaching 10C; giving an average increase of 0.07C in a 100 year period. In other words, from the ice cores we see that over the last 100 years, temperatures have increased 10 times faster (0.7C) than during this spike.
edit
who, when we talk about man made gw we are talking about the last 100 years. So it just makes sense that you would want to find a 100 year period (ANY 100 YEAR PERIOD) in ice core data that shows temperatures increased this fast.

Thats all well and good but the planet may get ONE or TWO degrees warmer in the next hundred years! How will we ever survive that!? No! We should destroy our economy TODAY! Our only course of action is to go back to horse and buggies. Ofcourse this would mean we wouldn't be able to have the medicines we have now a days and we wouldn't be able to ship food around the world so a large portion of the population would starve. But thats a sacrifice we should be willing to make. If thats what it takes to insure that our grandchildren are able to live in another ice age its a small price to pay. Bring on the Glaciers!

You may be right. I tend to take a very conservative position because I'm not sure. I think we need to get off foreign oil for our nations economic security. Most of the things the GW advocates are wanting to do will help that cause and reduce pollution at the same time, so I am willing to do what I need to do to reduce oil usage.
Even if they are wrong, I still win because we will import less oil, and I will save money. If they are right, then I still win.

I want to know you call yourself Mr. Jell-o? Now to your question. Mother Earth is Millions of years old. Always changing. People are always freak n out about what is normal. Also I believe in The Lord. The Holy Bible. So there are many other things to worry about. Things that I can change. Global Warming can't really change until other countries try too help out. Such as China. Personally I think China would just love too try to take over our country. They're still trying to kill our dogs and cats. See what can you do!!

because it could get and would get just a little big warmer than you'd expect, to the point of many deaths if not prepared for it's onset, and would be for longer than a "short period" of time. The point is "how many will survive" and what will be left to come back to.
