That's how I like my tea. My colleagues, both in England and here in New Zealand, think of me as a bit eccentric because of it.
Isn't there some region in the world where this is customary?

Russia, everywhere (but then we have quite a cold weather here). And it's essential to pour cream first!

Too many calories to my taste - only a rare treat :)

I do, sometimes. Normally however I use milk instead of cream. And this is the way you get your cup of tea served in England: black tea (Assam, because it is dark and strong), a bit of cold milk, brown sugar ad lib.

But if you go to Cornwall, you may be served "Cornish coffee", which is coffee with cream, and accordingly Cornish tea.

BTW, don't get confused by "cream tea" which you will find on menus in English cafés and tea-rooms. This is a kind of full breakfast which is served till late afternoon: tea (the way I explained, that is with milk), plus scones with jam and clotted cream. It tastes wonderful if you like sweet food. But I remember that it took me by surprise when I ordered it the first time (after visiting Canterbury Cathedral). I expected just a mug of tea and had already eaten before.

To sum it up: tea with cream is wonderful and tasty and nothing to be embarassed about. And don't forget the sugar.

England is famous for tea with or without lemon or cream. I love my tea with sugar and cream,America loves milk or cream as well as lemon. Its nice to be eccentric.

Hmmmm. My Brit friends all do that. I think it's personal preference. I generally have mine sweet but not creamed, but it's just taste. My daddy liked cream in his tea, too. That was Iowa in the 60s, lol.

I thought it was typical for good old England... so your experience comes to surprise to me.
But I know that nowadays the Brits drink more coffee than tea, so maybe they gave up the cream custom too.
I do it, nevertheless, with black tea only, of course. Welcome in the club!
