If you want to wait till the war is over then please never enlist in my military. Because obviously this means that you are not willing to put your life on the line for you country, which is what the service is all about.

None of the branches of the military are a country club, nor are they meant to be. The military's business IS warfare; so if you don't like the idea that you would have to be called on to fight for your country and for the rights of those who don't appreciate it and your sacrifices for them, then don't enlist. There's something to be said for someone who enlists in a time of war, and something else entirely for someone who only wants to enlist if he thinks he won't have to fight. One is courageous; the other, a coward. There's a reason why being in the military is referred to as "being in the service"--because that's precisely what it is. It means you're willing to give several years of your life, and sacrifice some of the rights you took for granted as a blissfully ignorant civilian, to protect the lives and rights of people who will spit on you for doing it. It's truly the epitome of "selflessness".
If you believe everything you see on TV about the war or the military, you probably shouldn't join anyway... gullibility isn't a good trait if you're in the heat of battle. Not everyone deploys; and even if you do, it's about the only time you get to actually do the job you're trained to do (most don't get to do it at all, in garrison). Politics should never, ever play into your decision, just as politics has no business getting in the way of a military operation and befouling it, endangering the lives of Americans and Iraqis alike, in the combat zone.
If you really want to know what military life and war experience is like, then talk to someone who actually HAS that experience. Talking to people who haven't is like asking a garbageman how to conduct a triple bypass heart surgery. You wouldn't do such a thing because it would be idiotic, right? My point exactly.

looking at your name im guessing youre a girl.theres nothing wrong about that but it will help you get a feel for the military. right now they are all offering a lot of money to join because we are in a time of war. if you join there is a high possibility that you will go over seas. but because you are a female you won't be able to join a combat oriented job, so youll probably be in the base the whole time you are out there. Im in the army because i like a challange, but here are the schematics for each branch. in order of crazyness. marines- have to be crazy to join. army- difficult but challenging. navy- youre on a boat for 6 months to 18 months at time. air force- probably the best of the military, most of them are very intelligent and they are probably the only ones to have air conditioning. im not so sure about the coast guard, only that they swim a lot. personally you should go to college first. no telling when youll get a chance to finish a BA on active duty. good luck, i hope this helps. oh one more thing don't let the recruiter promise anything to you without it being on legal papers, and ask every question in the book. make sure he answers all of your questions before you sign anything. and when you go to MEPS don't tell them anything about your medical history like childhood asthma, "remember" they're doctors if there is an obvious problem theyll find it during the tests. well i hope this helps.

You requested for an extended serving army member.....good, you bought one, 30 plus years and nonetheless serving! BTW, serving in a MP unit as good! Sorry, to the Army, your beyond is an excessive amount of of a hazard to tackle. With your entire prior problems, and the suicide strive, you rather feel you'll manage the day after day stresses of being an MP? Come on, I would not hazard taking the hazard on you, AND you wearing a loaded aspect arm. On best of all of the intellectual "problems", you admit to having a knee concern. Why might the Government wish to tackle that hassle that would probably intent a declare in opposition to the army/VA? As many years army member, I advise you appear at a nearby police division in case you wish to be a cop.

No, it's not. Only 1% of the population is in the military and they are severly stressed out. If we are going to continue with this war, there should be a draft. We had it in Vietnam. As far as the best branch, that depends on how much active duty time you want to spend. Some are 2 years, some 3 and some 4. Have to talk with all of them....Good luck to you.

From my OWN EXPERIENCE, if you want to try military, go to the AIR FORCE, at least try to get there. Yes the Army guys will tell you it is too easy, it is for Wussies, and it is not very cool to be in Air Force. But would you rather live your 4 years living like a working ant, get treated like crap, and always got screamed at, or do you want to be respected, educated ,military knowledgeable person. Work just 40 hours a week!!! Get treated with very big respect from officers, and have better benefits....Plus there is a plenty of combat jobs in Air Force too, if you want to Lock and Load

I will tell you that the Marines are not for you. Even as this war rages we are involved in smaller conflicts all over the world. We find the fight before it finds us.
If you are not willing to lay down your life now, will you be ready when the next war breaks out. Killing and dieing are the same in all wars

If you join you need to know what your options are. (i.e. what you score on your test..the one issued by the recruiter) If you score low they are gonna stick you in an infantry unit, they will sugar coat it with bonuses and incentives (only if you are shaky an they need the enrollment most likely). You also have to ask yourself why you are joining? Are you joining because you want to serve your country or because you are looking for college money? Be honest with yourself and get as much information before you sign on the dotted line. Best of luck.

Go Navy!! Technically they're the most sophisticated, have the best leadership and provide the best training. Also..they have the best food, best living accommodations and you'll travel to more and better places.
