If so, the answer is that Tyneside was covered by a network of railway lines at one time and there were connections to all the shipyards and docks. Even as late as the 1960s boat trains travelled from King's Cross to the Tyne Commission Quay in connection with the Scandinavian boat sailings. If you are asking what happened to the locomotives, you will need to be more specific as to which ones you are referring to.
