I like the statement. I myself am proud but I never apologize about not believing in God. I do not see religious people aplogizing that they do believe in God. I agree with the statement that Athiesm is evidence of a healthy independent mind because Athiests do their research and have often been religious/been raised in a religious family and have enough understanding of religion to know that they dislike it and have enough evidence that God does not exist. Athists are a small percentage of the population they do have an independent mind that is not tainted by religion and following those who do believe in religion.

I agree that there is nothing about atheism to apologize for, but the statement is overly broad. Some atheists ARE bitter, antisocial nihilists. But that doesn't mean the atheism caused it. It is certain evidence only of a rejection of the idea of a god. This is often a sign of an unrestricted mind but not always.

As an atheist of course I agree.
My favorite atheist quote is:
"An Atheist believes that a hospital should be built instead of a church. An Atheist believes that a deed must be done instead of a prayer said. An Atheist strives for involvement in life and not escape into death. He wants disease conquered, poverty vanished, war eliminated."

That's nice. I'm not going to get excited about something I already knew about myself.

They should be really thankful that God gave them the ability to think. Too bad they can be so full of themselves that they are not open to others' beliefs.
And as far as for Madalyn Murray O'Hair: she knows the truth now. I am sorry for her.
