The saying "cats have nine lives" has more to do with trouble they seem to get into, and out of!
They really don't have nine lives, its a myth.

There is a myth that cats have nine lives but it is just that, a myth. So if something very dramatic happens to your cat or it is getting pretty old, you might say it's lost a life. For example, I have a 15 year old cat. She was probably abused as a kitten before I found her as a stray (1), she has been in cat fights (2), she has been diagnosed with IBD (3) and kidney failure(4). She's 15 (5). She has arthritis and doesn't move as well as she used to. Also I think her hearing is going. (6). So that's 6 lives so I'd say she has 3 out of 9 lives left. But, it's just a myth.

Sorry, but that is just an old wives tale. Cats are very curious and agile so they get themselves in dangerous situations but because of their agility, they "appear" to defy death. It's nothing more than a myth.

Cats don't really have nine lives, only one just like you.
This saying comes from their ability to land on their feet from falls and getting out of tough situations.

Cats are so mysterious, I think they live secret double-lives. Innocent milk-lapping housecat by day, naughty porch-prancer by night...
