I am about 100 pounds overweight, and i want to lose it. I went to my doctor today, and she told me that i wasn't overweight enough to be helped, and that she was 'sorry i cannot help you at this point'.
Is it just me, or is this doctor avoiding her job? Should i seek out a new one, or is she being seriouse when she said i could not be helped. (her reason being my BMI is 35, and it needs to be 40 for any medical help).

Possibly she was saying that she did not think you were overweight enough for surgical intervention, but there are many, many other ways to lose weight that she could and should have referred you too. At the very minimum, a dietician could teach you how to calculate the calories in your food, how to plan healthier food choices, etc. I'd seek another doctor and ask specifically about non-surgical methods of weight loss.

As i know anyone with BMI over 29 is considered overweight.
You can even calculate it yourself:
BMI =703×weight in pounds/height in inches²
And this is the bMi table
BMI Weight Status
Below 18.5 Underweight
18.5 -24.9 Normal
25 - 29.9 Overweight
30 & Above Obese
So if your BMI is 35 you are obese and that should be treated because obesity will increase the risk of many diseases including cardiovascular diseases and Diabetes.
Are you sure that your BMI is 35?

Were you trying to get bypass surgery, or were you just seeking advice? If you were just seeking advice, she should have helped you find information and give you a diet and exercise plan to follow. If you were looking to get surgery, perhaps you're not big enough for that. That should be reserved for people who are hundreds of pounds overweight, who are about to die if they don't get the surgery. I'm a huge opponent of weight loss surgery for non-lethal cases. I think it's up to the patient to lose the weight on his/her own by good old fashioned hard work.

I am getting ready to go through the Roux-en-y surgery. Generally speaking your a candidate if your BMI is 35-40 along with 2 co-morbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, sleep apnea, heart problems, etc.... or BMI 40 or more with no co-morbidities. I would check with your insurance company and see if they cover it, if so, check with them to see what their criteria is. Some require 5 years of documented weighings from your doctor and 6 mos. of dr. supervised diet.
I would start with your insurance though....good luck!

Music enables you to eat more. According to a work by the journal Psychology and also Marketing, soft, classical tunes encourage you to take time over your food, so you consume more meal. So, switch off – silence will always make you more aware of what you’re setting up your mouth.
