In 2002, the American Tempermet Testing Society statistics listed that American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and Rottweilers were all in the 82 percentile, meaning over 80% of the dogs passed the temperment test. That is very high, especially when compared to breeds which are common family dogs, such as Golden Retrievers and Bichon Frise, which tested at 77%, Chihuahuas at 71%, and Lhasa Apsos at 71%

The test results can be viewed here in alphabetical order by breed. See how your breed fared.

I support responsible breeding, training and ownership of ALL BREEDS.

I fight for my breed because no dog, or group of dogs should be eliminated. Instead of BSL, which in essence is inneffective, we should be lobbying for stricter leash laws, and a crackdown on dog fighting rings and overbreeding.

Hey - I loveto roll on the floor laughing - get this a 78lb pit bull isn't a pit bull - it's a mix. Check out the breed specifications and what was destroyed, out of FEAR AND IGNORANCE was a mutt.

The saying has been around forever - but it's so true "what man fears, man destroys". Man feared the GSD, let's destroy them, man feared the dobie, let's ban/destroy that, man feared the rottie, now the pit. Let's wipe all those out - let's see, what would be next? Probably the lab, they have more bites and can inflict damage. So we wipe out the lab. Well, what's next - probably a cocker. So they are gone. 100 years from now what will we have. A bunch of morons on a killing spree.

Sweet Jesus.

Yes - write your congressman. In the time it takes to post and argue and post and argue you can draft a beautiful letter to your congressman letting him/her know what you think of BSL and where they can shove it. Send in pictures of your dog(s). Send in video. Man has done the same thing over and over again to man. Look at the Nazis - they tried to eradicate the Jews. Look at the Sunnis and Shiites. Look at North Korea and South Korea. What man fears, man destroys. Man is unable to work for things anymore, it's the throw-away society, fast food society, get a replacement society that we live in.

Those responsible people that own and work with their dog, of any breed, but especially the terrier group, know that hard work spawns a well-behaved beautiful speciman of a dog.

There is a lot of pros & cons when it comes to Pitt Bull on this site & there will never be anyone who can convince me I am wrong. I do not like the breeds in this group because of my oun personal experience with them. I am sure there are exceptions, one of my sisters has two but she has to rule with very very strict corrections. As long as she stays on top she doesn't have any problems.

I think that the good Pitts (you all claim you have) are products of careful breeding & are not the ones that were bred to fight. But they have the same instincts. The ones that are from a fight breeder are conditioned before they are even born. And it is these pups that grow up to have the problems. They weren't bred for house pets or pets in general. It just so happens that some of the pups would not do good in a Pit so they are sold as pets. Owners beware these pups have no place as pets. These are dangerous dogs.

I think it would do you people good just to look at the tests they perform for temperament testing. Search American Temperament Test & click on tests. This explains what they do & why they do it.

I think that there should be Temperament testing in every city. This would be a great start to getting a handle on some of the serious biters.

We all know this stuff.. It's posted here all the time.. If you truly want to save your breed, you will get those people who aren't already educated on BSL.. Get out there with your pit bull and show people that they are the nice dogs you say they are.. Sitting at home posting on YA isn't saving your breed, that's apparent, or there wouldn't be a problem. You have to get out on the street and educate the public. Only way to do that is to let them see your pit bull acting nice and calm and sweet.. We don't see that side of the dog.. Where are they?? Everyone always says how nice their dog is, how sweet they are, how much they trust them around their kids.. But where are those dogs? Only ones we see are the ones on the news.. If you want to save your breed, you have to change that, change their image.. Not gonna do it here..

A good fight sure takes it out of you. Way to come up with facts!!! You deserve a long nap.

Just looked at the web sight, pits beat out my breed and if my dog would have taken the test she wouldn't have made it. Too scared ( bad life before us) However she wouldn't hurt a fly. Wonder if her breed will be next?

I agree stronger leash laws for the protection of the dog and people is a must. Dogs running free is such a shame, just don't know what will happen, hit by car etc.. We even have those idiots that posin and shot animals. I would love to see a manditory leash law and spay law unless you could prove your a reputible breeder.

Britain got so fed up with the irresponsible breeding practices of Pitbull owners.....whose dogs inflicted the vast majority of dog bites causing injury or death they simply banned the breed outright and euthanized ALL Pitbulls in the British Isles...........remarkably, it seems the numbers of people dying of dog bites since then have dropped dramatically. Coincidence?.

I don't care what the Temperament club says. Today a 78lb pit was put down at the clinic at noon for biting the crap out of it's owner. It was a "perfect family pet" too. Yesterday they brought in 5 dogs, ridgeback, boxer, two pits and a fat lab/pit mix thing to be killed for code violations because of BSL within the city limits. (I'm not sure how the ridgeback fit into that, but it was surrendered and they chose to destroy it rather than adopt it out.) Leave the dogs alone. If you breed them, you are condemning about half of the puppies to death. If you choose to get them, you are putting yourself and others at risk. Just leave them alone. The idiots will stop making them if you stop getting them.

Good for you Rachael, My sister owned a Pit bull & she was a big baby. That dog loved everyone & you're right, I get so tired of people bashing this poor animal. the only ones that are harsh dogs are the ones who are trained to be fighting dogs. That training includes abuse of them so they will be mean dogs. People need to know the truth about this breed as well as the other breeds they condem. Thank you for making some see that Pit Bulls are GREAT, dogs & not the vicious beast society will have us believe.

You know I am actually getting sick of all the post, for and against, Pitbulls. Enough already!!!
I would also like to point out that seeing pit bull attacks in the news again does not help the cause. And why is it that these types of questions are only asked after a recent pit bull attack?
Why not try writing to your alderman, congressman or senate because that is where your help is needed to stop BSL. Questions on YA answers does nothing to help because pit bull and large dog breed haters are not going to be swayed even a little bit by these questions.

That link has been shared countless times since I have been a member of YA.

You are not fighting for your breed by writing questions on YA and I know because of the petitions I have helped getting filled up and the countless emails and letters I have written. Like I said, write your alderman, congressman or state senator because that is where the help is needed, not whining on YA. I work to fight BSL because my breed is a targeted breed and these questions is not how to help the fight against BSL

Thank you for sharing this link. It's very interesting.

I'm happy to see that my beloved Labs came in at a very high 91% in this particular test. Not bad considering there were quite a few tested too.

The Pitts had relatively high numbers tested in this test too.

As usual, it's about responsible ownership.

The amazing number here was the German Shep. Over 2K tested. WOW.

I think before we start legislating breeds, we need to legislate responsible spaying and neutering. I'm tired of dogs dying by the 1000's daily.... of all breeds.

OK....any person/breeder that does TT is probably NOT going to have dogs with the kind of temperments that are a problem.

I think if someone went into the inner cities and TT some of the pits that you see the 12 year olds walking, there MIGHT be different results!!!!!
