Is faith alone good enough, or do you have to live a good life also?

You have to accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. That's about it. The "good life" thing will follow after that, because he's acting in your life.

Curtis Mayfield put it best:

"People get ready
There's a train a comin'
You don't need no baggage you just get on board
All you need is faith
To hear the diesel comin'
Don't need no ticket you just thank the Lord"

Faith, if it is authentic, leads you to a better life, and a better purpose. "By their fruits shall you know them," Jesus said, and the sign of true faith is a tree that is bountiful, not one that is withered.

But a Christian's good life should be rooted in faith. You can't buy your way into Heaven. After all, like CM said, "don't need no ticket," how can you pay for something that is already free?

for most Christians the only requirement is to accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. this means that you admit that you are a sinner (born into the human race as a sinner, and BECAUSE you are human you are a sinner), then you believe that Jesus is the son of God and that he died for your sins. After that you ask him to come into your life and heart and THEN on faith you are saved and go to heaven. This is all in the book of Romans of the Bible. as far as living a good life, we can not live a good life. we are human. we can never live good enough to make it heaven, and that is why we need Jesus and the reason why he came here in the first place.
Hope this helps.

Read the Bible, it plainly and clearly teaches, that Faith and Works go hand in hand together. Faith alone is dead, and works alone will not get you to Heaven, Therefore Faith combined with Works, will get you to Heaven. Know you not that it is written:

Heb:5:9: And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that OBEY him;

Therefore the first step is to beleive in Jesus, that He is the Son of God, then when you accept Him, the second step is to OBEY Him, as Scriptures clearly teach.

Those who say they belong to Him, yet walk in darkness lie and do not the Truth.

Therefore Faith and Works go hand in hand, Now there are those who do not believe this Truth, for they believe that Faith only can save them, there willl be weeping and gnashing of teeth, then there are those who believe that if they are mostly good ( works only ) they also will go to Heaven, these also will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. ONly those who have Faith, and they have works also because they have faith, these will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, and they are very few.

In His Holy and Precious Name, Jesus Christ

What is required to getting into Heaven is 1) accepting Jesus as your personal savior 2) asking for forgiveness and 3) living by the commandments, which the greatest of all is love one another as Jesus has loved you.

A Christian's faith is always questioned during their walk. To be a Christian is to exhibit Christ-like characteristics. I would suggest reading the New Testament to see what this involved (love, forgiveness, generousity, kindness, patience, etc). The NIV version is easy to read and understand.

God's grace is prevenient, it was there for you before you were even born. "Faith" is the choice to accept the justifying grace of God. This is what many call "salvation" or "rebirth." After that decision, there is nothing further you *must* do, but if your faith is sincere you will do good works and avoid evil ones (not saying you won't sin, of course you will, daily, we all do).
The apostle James wrote "faith without works is DEAD" and what I think he means is this: doing good and trying to reflect the light of God to the world is the only natural consequence of true faith. The desire for loving service is just in your heart if Christ is in it, and you will serve others joyfully not because you think you should but because you cannot help it.

There are so many things I will not try to list them all. However faith in Jesus Christ is the most important, But faith with out works is dead. Or to say it different you do not have true faith with out trying to follow the teachings of Jesus. Repentance is believing in Jesus Christ and the fact he will wash your sins clean however true repentance requires a change, so that you never repeat the sin. For how have you truly repented if you do not stop doing the sin?

Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. God chooses out those for salvation. Those whom He calls, He indwells with the Spirit and gives them the faith to believe.

Rom 8:28 But we know that to the ones loving God all things work together for good, to those being called according to purpose;
Rom 8:29 because whom He foreknew, He also predestinated to be conformed to the image of His Son, for Him to be the First-born among many brothers.
Rom 8:30 But whom He predestinated, these He also called; and whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.
