I agree with u on the most part about the penalties but I would also give him a lifetime ban from having a drivers license ever again and a 20 year sentence, just because it is a country road does not matter people can still pop out from any where on the road children as well and the results would be devastating who in the world could survive a 172 mile and hour hit not any human I am aware of this person is a mental case and does not need to drive anymore.

A lifetime endorsement on his driver's licence to restrict the types of 3- and 4-wheeled vehicles he can drive to 1000 or 1100cc and fitted with a governor. Two-wheeled vehicles restricted to 125cc and fitted with a governor. Maybe a requirement to re-take his driving test before the amended licence was issued. Police to confiscate the licence for amendment at the time of arrest. Set a "ceiling speed" and time bracket at which such a punishment would apply - after all 100mph on a motorway at 3am would be unlikely to be as dangerous as the same speed at 3pm.
Require car sales to include a signature on the transfer of ownership that any such restriction has been noted and that the vendor is acting in accordance with that restriction in making the sale.
Penalty of a fine equal to the value of the sale for the *vendor* if the restriction is ignored or infringed, and instant imprisonment for ten calendar years with no time off for the original speeder. Just like a pub landlord would be fined if he was caught selling a beer to an underage person. Lots of folks want more meaningful sentences. This would have meaning.
No-one would want to sell this idiot a car capable of more than 90mph at any time in the future. His job, if it required driving skills, would not be affected. One less person would be clogging up the penal system because he would not be tempted to infringe an outright ban as he could still drive - just MUCH less quickly.

I'd give the guy a medal for finding an empty enough stretch of road to get to 172mph! As another rightly says, if he was a cop 'testing' a new car, he'd get off scot-free, but since he's a young guy in a Porsche Turbo, they'll throw the book at him.
If no other crime than speeding has been commited, then he should receive a speeding fine, points, ban, whatever, but no-one should be put in jail for a motoring offence which has no other consequence.

Well a paedophile who attacked 13 boys 24 times over 14 years got off with 3 years community service so if you judge it by that then I say politely ask him no to do it again would be severe enough.
The entire justice system is wrong. That guy should be banned for 5 years, prison for a year, and made to take the extended test that police and ADI's do. And banned from having any car with more then a 1.6l engine for life.

depends on the country road it ifs a reasonable one where he has a good few of whats ahead then 2 years ban £1,000 fine and have to resist his driving test and be forced to drive a car under 1600cc for the first year after passing his test again.
If it was a motor way i would be happy for a years ban and resit driving test.
Also the speed kills thing is right and wrong if you are in the car its the sudden deceleration but surely when you hit someone at 100 MPH its the speed that kills.
I think speeding is ok under the correct circumstances.

I thought cars had a built in restriction of 155 mph. Good job he didn't meet a tractor or combine harvester on this country road. A fine and a ban would be appropriate.

We can't lock him up cos HM hotels are full.
We could make him work as an ambulance driver on community service for 5 years.
Now,lateral thinking, the car was a 911,prosecute the manufacturer for aiding and abetting. They are irresponsible for not fitting a 80 MPH speed limiter.

In Europe the autoban is safe and people go very fast 100 - 150 or more . I beleive that in Nevada they do not have speed limits outside city limits. Do they have higher death statistics in Nevada or Europe than the U.S. ?
I think this speed kills is all hype to collect fines / revenue from Americans. we buy into it like cattle.
I would like to see some hard data from Europe and America to compare.

A life ban is enough I think but if anyone was hurt then a sentence and a proper *** raping in jail is on the menu.
