In addition to the above places where it is found.. there are 85 entries of the name in the US social security death index. Obviously, the name is not limited to any one certain locality. Nor did you mention if you are in the US or elsewhere.
If this is an ancestor you are hoping to find, you are going to have to be more specific as to country and approximate time frame (and exact name if possible). Again.. if an ancestor, you might think you have "no" information.. yes, if there is a child of this person, you know that they were SOME place for that child to have been born (or even just conceived).
If you want, please post again, with what details you have, and you may be surprised what can be found, or ideas for places you can look. The only limitation is that if this person is living, the general rule is that we won't post on a public board. If your email is enabled, persons can reach you in private, if they choose to.

I have looked the name up in Ancestry on the 1901 Census It appears to be mainly in the Southern counties Essex in particular with an odd one in Durham and Hampshire. Obviously I have not gone on very deeply. There are also Authors of that name. So although I had not heard of the name before it does exist. I do not know what this proves if anything

Apparently it's original English form was Comber. It was given to someone who either made combs or combed sheeps wool.
