I didnt put a ceiling in it so i could stand up in it. Some one told me to put the blue styrofoam board Lowes has up in between my rafters and between the studs on my walls.Oh yea it is air conditioned with a fan and at the hottest part of the day the air conditioner loses to the heat off the roof. Please give me some ideas thanks.

Have you thought about adding a radiant barrier? They sell them at Lowes and Home Depot in my area. If you staple it to the rafters and walls, it won't just reflect the heat out in the summer, but in the winter it will reflect the heat back inside. It's like wrapping the whole thing in a super-efficient space blanket. I wouldn't imagine you'd need much for a dog house. You could probably do the whole house for about $50 to $75.

While I commend you for wanting to keep your dog cool - you shouldn't rely on a dog house to keep your dog comfortable. The fan can be a neat convenience to keep the air circulating when he/she is out there. But in the hot summer days, the dog should be inside in the house with you where its comfortable and safe.. Midday is a lethal time for dogs to be outdoors in the hot summer sun.

Treat any deluxe treatment to the dog house as a fun novelty only - not something to depend on.

DON'T use regular fiberglass batting, unless you are putting a ceiling in - those fibers do occasionally get loose, and will really damage an eye, for instance.
