Does it bother anyone if your partner has a different style of music that they like? especially if it is drastically different from yours. like if you like country/rock with heart and soul and all your partner likes is RAP and techno.... do you think that shows what kind of character you are and maybe show a sign of compatibility???

That's a great question. I guess it just depends on how important music is to you. If you are two people who love to listen to music constantly, or love to go out dancing, etc., then yes, a different taste in music is probably going to put a damper on things. But, if not, it's just a difference in preference. Are you going to split up because one of you likes Coke and the other Pepsi? There are bigger things in the world than this. Don't sweat it.

It is but ONE sign of incompatibility. It's not the end of the world, unless one or both of you are totally heavy into music as a way of life. Then it become a BIG problem

Most people only listen to music when they are relaxing, and nowadays, that is with plugs in.
But rappers and techno lovers are a different breed; They want it out there, and loud for the rest of the world to suffer from, and all the time. If you don't like that , then that is a major incompatibility.

Yeah, common ground is key. But taste in music reflects on their personality as well...

Hip-hop and Rap is completely different from Country/Rock...

That means you two are sort of opposite, but if you two have a lot in common, the music shouldn't matter. I'm sure you already realized this, but the music isn't probably the only difference.

Music reflects the person's personality as well.

I don't think it has much to do with compatibility. Most of the music my husband likes drives me up a wall. But being total opposites isn't a bad thing. We give each other new ways to look at the world. And it makes for interesting conversation and debate.

Most of the time the guys I go for have the same taste in music, but the ones that don't i'm okay with, usually if it's rap etc they aren't really that big into it, so it never comes around as a big deal.

Only if its in the car on a LONG trip! Thank god my man and I agree pretty much on the same music! I love country and so does he but man he has this awful Johhny Cash DVD that just drives me crazy and I HATE it sooooo much! Id love to accidentally throw it out the window! But then again he doesnt really care too much for Rascal Flatts and he lets me play that in the car sooooo I guess I just gotta get some ear plugs and pretend to like it.

Everyone has different tastes, but if either of you are HARD_CORE hooked on your own then maybe it would be a problem. Most people super deep into their tunes should be open enough to respect their mates choices so long as neither shoves it down the others throat!

not at all. I am a music major so i like all types. my main genre, the genre in which i perform with my band is metalcore. I have dated girls that didnt even know what metalcore was. my first was heavily into country. so in my humble opinion, no it does not show compatablity. And as Vinnie Paul once said, there might be a rocker deep down in that chick somewhere

Oh man, if that were the only difference, we'd be home free. We differ on almost everything and have been married over 30 years. The clue is to accept differences and not try to mesh perfectly because that isn't going to happen.

Sort of and not really, I mean you can't judge people on what kind of music they listen to but I am a white girl but i listen to rap, and pop, and rock, and country, and all kinds of other stuff. But like generally you see black gangsters listening to rap, and you see little kids listening to Disney and stuff. But if I were you I wouldn't let it bother me.
