Ok so I work at Wal-Mart. I hate the place, but hey its a paycheck. It a great place to shop, not so great place to work. I'm still on my 90 day probation, but sense yesterday I have been feeling under the weather. I went in yesterday even though I felt I crap, But today when I woke up my body felt really weak so I called out. So my mom told me it's not good to called out before your 90 days. I really am sick though, I have a really bad cold. I have been in bed all day. My body is weak. The only reason I got up was so I could eat. Then I had to get on the computer so that I could pay this man on EBay for my schoolbook. right now I'm going to drink some tea & lay back down. Anyway am I going to get in trouble at work? I already got a verbal warning from a manager who thinks I work to slow. Man I hate that place. I do my job & their still on my back!!!!! I'm really thinking about quiting anyway.

stay home, your health is more important then a bad job. you dont want the customers to get sick. and its not that important if you get fired.

Sounds like you pretty much made up your mind already to leave so with that type of attitude it will tend to rub off on the people you work with and your job performance. I realize that you probably have to work there until you find something better but I would suggest you try to have a better attitude. To the point of your question, calling in sick when you are sick should not matter regarding your probationary period. However calling in sick, missing work and being written up for working too slow isn't a great record. You may well be asked to provide them with a Doctor's notice.

Generally, it's probaly not a great idea to call out within your probation period. However, if you are really sick I wouldn't worry about it too much. Unfortunately if you are a teenager, you won't get much respect working at a place like Walmart. Basically, because the management probably thinks that ALL teenagers will be slackers. It will get better as you get older. A little anyway.

If you are legitimately sick during your probationary period, you really should see a doctor and get a note from him to verify your illness. Most likely it won't be an issue at work, but you never know.

Now, the fact that you've already been in trouble at work casts a different light on things. If they don't like you, or feel you are not a hard worker, calling in sick during your probationary period might be a problem. If they're looking for a reason to get rid of you, you may have just given them one.

But let me say this - there aren't tons of jobs right now. If you've got one that pays you decently, you need to be serious about it... even if it's WalMart. There are many other people who'd be happy to take your place.

It is bad to call in sick before your 90 days are up especially since you've already gotten a verbal warning. But if you are thinking about quitting does it even matter if you get in trouble again.

Yes its bad.. Seeing as your still on probation & have recieved a verbal warning already . If you dont have a doctors note, you probably won't have to worry about the job much longer ... P.S. I've had a few friends that work @ sprawl mart as well & they hate the job also .. Your not the alone in the feeling .

It depends on how your boss is. He could be Lenient or Strict. If its a medical sickness they should let it go by. They put this in place so people dont get of for personal reasons like vacations. They can fire you if they choose to. Call your manager and ask what he will do about a illness.

Walmart takes into consideration illness. All over the news it has been talking about how much colds, and sinus infections etc is going around. My husband has been so sick (he never misses work) that he had to get on an inhaler and has been in bed for three days. So if you really are sick and haven't missed yet then I wouldn't worry.

I've been a manager for many years and a valid doctor's instruction was always good enough for me, whether or not the person passed the probationary period. That being said, within probationary periods, the organization doesn't have the limitations it does post-probation.

If you are REALLY sick you should stay home. But the fact that management says you are to slow is probably because you hate your job and you are there just to put in the hours. You are probably not a GREAT employee, so you should find another job that you think you would enjoy more and be more productive. Good luck.

Yes its not a good idea to take time off during a trial period. If you really cant go, get a doctors certificate. When you return to work do a really good job, with a positive attitude until you can get find other work. Its always best to keep a good relationship wherever possible with your current employer to get good references.
