I would thank him effusively for the flowers, commenting on how pretty they are and how much I love them, and then put them in a vase of some kind with some water. If whatever I was wearing on the date lent itself to such a thing, I might take one flower and pin it to my blouse or dress.
I'm sure your guy doesn't intend for you to bring a whole bouquet of flowers with you along on the date. Thanking him and putting the flowers in a vase of water is a reasonable action to take.
(In my case, I'd have to also put the flowers somewhere out of reach of my cat, who likes to eat flowers and would undoubtedly go for them the moment he heard the door close as my date and I left.)

You should leave them at the house. If possible, put them into a vase right away to show that you like them and will display them when the guy's not around.
A woman once came to my house for a first date. I had flowers for her. She suggested that we should leave them in my refrigerator since we were going to a baseball game. When we got back to my house, said our goodbyes, and she left, we had both completely forgotten about the flowers! She called me halfway home to apologize and we laughed about it.

If you've got the option to... ALWAYS leave them at the house. Stop for a minute to put them in some water or something... then be on your way.
...it's just awkward to have to carry them around with you for the rest of the night.

Well, if you don't want to carry them during the whole date, tell him how pretty they are, how thankful you're give him a kiss on the cheek and tell him to give you a few seconds to put the flowers in a pot with water because you don't want them to die. I think that would be polite.

Leave them behind after you have put them in a nice vase with water. Let him see you do this. It means to him they are important to you.

u can leave it at home and your body language and how he interpret it can show more sincerity than to bring the flower out.

As a guy, I'd expect you to leave them. The exception would be a corsage or similar that you can wear -- obviously I'd expect you to wear it.
"Expect" sounds rather harsh, it is not intended that way.
