Hi Lisa.
I starred your Q. Too many people's experience is that. Ya know, i kinda hate the answer. It sound so trite.
It has the meaning you give it.
The problem is that you were raised to "know" that it's "most important" aspect is being trained so you can get a job and earn money,
because, after all, if you don't do that you "will not survive."
Look here. Find the things that make you go "that's crazy!, but interesting!" Once you are exposed to the "new", and decide what you are not interested in, you will the start to feel free to decide for yourself what is true.
When that happens you will find yourself beginning to inject meaning into life.
Have a fun and adventurous journey.
best wishes!

That is life on lifes terms
Heres something you might enjoy.....
Everything happens for a reason, nothing happens by chance or by means of good or bad luck. Injury, Illness, love lost moments of true greatness and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul. Without these small tests, if they be events, illnesses or relationships, life would be a smoothly paved path to nowhere.
If someone hurts you, betrays you or breaks your heart, foregive them. For they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious to who you open your heart to.
If someone loves you, love them back uncondittionally, not only because they love you but because they are teaching you to love and opening your heart and eyes to things you never would have seen or felt without them.
Make everyday count. Apprichiate every moment and take from it everything you can, for you may never be able to expierience it again.
Talk to people you have never talked to before, and actually listen. Hold your head up high because you have every right to. Tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself, for if you dont believe in yourself no one else will believe you either.
You can make your life anything you wish. Create your own life and then go out and live it.

Our reason to be here is to unfold the higher nature of the soul which is the great self that we all share together. We are all on a long evolutionary journey towards becoming divine beings and to be at one with our creator who dwells in all things and within all of us human beings We come into incarnation thousands of times in each world period to work out the divine plan for our world which is the hidden reality within us all. We all have a part to play in this coming new age which will be the age of peace and brotherhood for all mankind. Each and every body can make a difference as we are brothers and sisters of one humanity. As an occultist I do my part in uplifting the hopes and the inspirations of all mankind and to create an atmosphere of love and expectancy for the coming of the 'World Teacher' who's personal name is Maitreya who's name means ',the happy one '.He is the elder brother of all humanity and became a Master of Wisdom long ago during the atlantean root race some millions of years ago when man was in his infancy. Our future is a very bright and happy if we all come together as one humanity.Take your brothers need as the measure of your action and solve the problems of the world.

There are two separate understandings of the phrase, "meaning of life". When you say "why am I here", you're speaking of purpose of life and purpose requires a God. If you are here strictly because of evolution, then there is no "why". Without a Creator, there is no purpose, therefore no meaning, therefore no worth to our lives.
If we reject God, then we have to deal with a psychological issue because our human nature demands that we have worth. Typically we will build our feelings of self worth by seeking the praise, both real and imagined, of others. We want to make a difference because that would mean we have done something praiseworthy. This feeling of self worth brought about through the praise of others is the second understanding of the phrase, "meaning of life".
If we accept the idea that we might have been created by God, then it must be that God has put our great need for meaning into our human nature in order to point us to seek Him.

Thats why we need our religion. The religion will guide us to achieve a goal in the life.
Does bees is created for nothing?Of course not. They live to make a honey that benefit the human and at the same time worship the God. Every creature made by God have its own function and consequences.
I know why i am here in this world. And now i feel my life was so significant that I cant waste it. It is a gifted from God. We should appreciate it.

The best way to find meaning in your life is to make a difference in someone elses life. Go volunteer at the local food bank, or whatever.

Start making one. The book of James defines true religion, the only religion recognized by God, as being one where you help the poor and disenfranchised.
God fills each of us with a holy discontent, something that just makes your blood boil when you think about it. For me, it's youth who struggle and hurt. So I volunteer with the youth ministry at our church.
What's your holy discontent? Take that energy and make something positive happen from it.

Free will. Pick yourself up, get a new job, find some friends, make some changes, and stop feeling sorry for yourself. You have the power to change things. I suggest you do it.

Life is the meaning (or lack of meaning). There is no overall design for you. If you feel you need to make a difference, then do you best to do it.
