I assume the room your referring to is the bedroom. My advice is to make the bed first. Wash all the linens so that everything is fresh and clean when you go to sleep. Besides, when you're standing in a room and the bed is made, the rest of the mess doesn't look as bad. Next, tackle the floor around the bed, seperate all the laundry, if necessary seperate it into large trash bags. Do a batch of colors, whites, whatever and while that is running you can start on another section of the room. As hard as it is, save the closet until the room is pretty well picked up. One giant job to tackle at a time.

I had the opposite problem, I am a pack rat and just got married and my husband is a neat freak, the best way to go about it take out all the clothes that are not put away. You might as well wash them all since you have no idea what is clean or dirty, I gaurantee just by removing all the clothes it will make a difference. Then go through the closet and take out all empty hangers and put them in one spot. Then you take everything else and centralize it (on the bed or in the middle of the room. Even everything from the top of surfaces. Desks, Nightstand, dresser.
Next get Boxes about 3. One for all stuff that does not belong in the bedroom. (I am know for having the most random things, hammers, soap. I dont know why, I am just a pig I guess) that way you arent walking back and forth putting stuff where it belongs. Next box TRASH, next box give away stuff.
then you go through and separate the clothes in the drawers and give away stuff not used anymore that way when all laundry is folded it can go into the right drawers. Then start organizing shoes at the bottom of the closet or in shelfs or where ever. That should make it go faster and get less confusing...

First of all start by talking to the slob, there is no excuse for living in the mess you have described. This should tell you what he will be as a husband. That said and done, start with the laundry, if it isn't on a hanger, folded or in a drawer, then it is DIRTY. Sort it as you place in hampers, bags or whatever, it will save you time when you are washing things, take it all to the laundry area and start a load, then return to the room and start tossing anything that is garbage, broken or questionable. Once you have the majority of clutter out of the way, tackle the drawers so you have somewhere to place the clean clothes. Don't forget to strip the bed and put clean linen on. Once the drawers are done, then dust, wash windows or anything else in need of cleaning. The last thing you will do is vacuum, sweep or wash the floor. Don't forget the laundry, you have plenty of loads ahead.

Been there - done that

just clean when he is not there - go through the clothes - throw out every piece of clothing that has a hole, rip, stain - throw the rest in the laundry - box up anything that 'looks' important and throw out the rest

he will never part with anything and it will stay the way it is

Men - in order to get rid of something of theirs- you must trash it, burn it and/or bury it (and do not let him look in the garbage - use black bags and do it the night before garbage pick up)

first of all make sure he helps you! Take trash bags, one for trash, one for dirty laundry and one for "stuff to be sorted by him". Try to throw away as much as possible (the ugly stuffed animal he won for you on your 56th date can go, trust me as well as the jeans he wore at the 4th concert he ever went to). Work your way from the back to the front and don't start working on several spots at the same time. Make him take the dirty clothes to the nearest laundromat if he gets in your way all the time and tries to keep everything.

1] get several laundry baskets, some black garbage bags, and some white garbage bags
2] strip bed. Put sheets, blanket, etc in one of clothesbaskets
[ i use different colors for dif. type clothes - white for white, dark blue for darks, bright whatever for colors, and one for towels and sheets ]
3] one of you should gather up all dirty clothes, and sort into baskets [ him ]
4] second personshould pick up all obvious trash, and put in black bag[s] [ him again ]
5] then put all stuff on floor that isn't garbage or clothes in white plastic bags, to be sorted later.
6] one person starts washing, another does cobwebs, dusting, vacuuming
7] get underbed storage for 'stuff used infrequently - out of season clothes, sports stuff, etc.
8] buy shelf dividers for closet - use your side for hats, gloves, scarves; and handbags filed like books are shelved
9] suggest separate dressers, if possible - give sloppy the tall one with drawers, and you take the mirrored one.
10] get drawer dividers [ or make them out of shoeboxes ]
area A - bras [ undershirts]/ panties [ briefs and boxers ]
B - socks/tights/hose
C - Tshirts
D - jeans
E - exercise clothing
F - pajamas
PS: anything too big, too small, too ugly; should be donated; or if ratty, tossed out.

Start by taking ALL the clothes and bedding out and washing them, then remove ALL the stuff and seriously ask the BF if he really wants it. If not toss it.

initiate by using stripping the mattress and tossing the bedding into the washer. Curtains, too, in the event that they like it! grab a field or roll of trash bags, initiate on the door, and paintings your way in. maximum of your 'mess' is honestly rubbish. positioned it in interior the luggage and haul them out as you fill them. sparkling from genuine to backside, and sparkling one section at a time. extreme cabinets, and so on. get wiped sparkling FIRST. Wipe down as you pass. do no longer positioned something decrease back until the full section has been wiped sparkling. pass by using your outfits. in case you like something, you save it. carry it up or fold it smartly and positioned it away. in case you now no longer like it, do no longer like it, or it does not in high-quality condition, besides the shown fact that that is nonetheless in reliable situation, DONATE it. If that is stained, torn, or so grotesque no you may like it, that is trash ... throw it away! do this, section by using section, on your room. maximum of it is going to be throwing stuff away!

You just have to dig in and work your way out.
But i'd start with all the laundry first...get it out the way.
Good Luck!
