Jesus said, 'I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it for ever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed... He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.' (John 8: 31-47).

In some ways sin is a graded thing devised by man to allow for punishment and penal systems in different countries. However sins can be graded but 'sinners' cannot..a sinner is a sinner whatever the sin and in Gods perfect world there is no room for sinners.
Best wishes, Mike.

Sin is sin in the eyes of God. Simply because there will be no sin at all in Heaven. In the end, God is going to destroy sin, the creator of sin the devil, and hell also. God for once and for all will have His garden of Eden as He wanted in the beginning.

In a nutshell sin is sin, God doesn't grade it, however, some sins are easier to repent from than others - e.g. if you do something like swearing when you stub your toe, it is easier to be truly sorry and turn around from that than if you plan a murder. When a person becomes a Christian they are forgiven for all sin past present and future - we need to repent because sin temporarily cuts us off from God - the repentance restores our "right-ness" with God.

Sin is sin. Sin is that which dishonours God and brings shame to those who bear His Name.
The Bible says that God can't look on sin; that's why Jesus died on the Cross for us.
God sees the heart, so that a "little" action (like that packet of cigs mentioned above) can be stained with terrible pride, anger, selfishness, etc.
Paul says that to God all our righteousness is "as filthy rags" (the word he used means dirty menstrual towels). Think of the hypocritical self-satisfaction that some of the philanthropists display with all their "good" stuff. Or the religious pride displayed by some others. Is God impressed? No. Because God is perfect Light, Righteousness and Love, not even our best "good works" are anything.
BUT we have the Blood of Jesus on our side. Those who accept that sacrifice and are adopted into His household know that when He looks at us, he sees His Son, Jesus.
So we don't have to try to "measure up" because we can't. Anything "good" we do after conversion is just because we love Him, not because we think we can "make brownie points" with God. You can't earn a gift, and salvation is a gift. You just accept it, and live as if it were true--because it is.

There is no such thing as SIN. For `sin` read `crime, there`s no-one to punish you for a sin, but for crime, then watch out, there`s nothing magical, mythical, or god-like about the law.
Religion says that going naked is a sin, blasphemy is a sin, it`s also a sin to work on Saturdays or Sundays depending on your religion. It`s also a `sin` to have sex with your neighbours wife, but not against the law, and so on and son on and on and on.
Forget religion, just be honest, truthful and law-abiding and you should come to no harm, except, that is, for being mugged, raped, attacked, shot or someone burning your house down because you told them to keep quiet at four in the morning!!

Yes there are grades of sin, some will send you to hell for sure, others will cause God to move away from you until you repent as God and sin don't mix ,he is holy, and that is what sin is it separates us from GOD

There are different grades of sin, both in human eyes and in God's eyes, but the human view of sin does not always co-incide with God's view of it. Depending on our culture, certain sins are seen as more or less serious, and our views of which sins are worse or not as bad are not necessarily the same as God's views.

And some of the things we do not consider sinful, are a sin in God's eyes, and some of the things we think are sinful are not a sin in God's eyes.

For example, if you look at the life of Jesus, whom Christians say is God and Muslims say is a prophet, you can see that he had disagreements with religious authorities in his day over things like how to keep Sabbath, and how to keep God's laws. When Jesus healed people on Sabbath they thought it was a sin, and in another case, Jesus rebuked them for adhering strictly to tithing laws but neglecting justice and mercy. He got angry and traders in the court of the gentiles in the temple, who did not see anything wrong with making God's house of prayer for all nations into a market. He spoke kindly to the outcasts in society - prostitutes and tax collectors, and spoke sternly to those who considered themselves holy people but who were proud and arrogant.

And Gid judges people based on how well they respond to what they know of God's truth, not by what they don't know. Thus in Acts 17:29-30 Paul says that God closed one eye in the past over the ignorance of people who worship created things, but now commands people to repent from this. And Jesus say that to those who are given more, more will be expected, and those who know God's will and disobey it will be beaten more than those who don't know.

Another thing is that human judgments of sin are often based on a shallow understanding of sin, and based on dos and don'ts and outward behaviour, whereas God judges sin based on deeper principles like the law of "love God and love your neighbour".

Assuming that you believe in the concept of sin -

Most reasonable people can see a difference between a teenage boy sneaking a peek at a Playboy magazine in a magazine rack vs. another teenage boy who takes a pistol to his school and kills as many people as he can.

I suspect that, if there is a god, he also sees the difference.

For those who believe that there is such a thing as sin and God:

Sin is often defined as something that separates a person from God, whether it's an action, a thought, a belief, a lack of action, etc.

It's the separation that is bad. And there aren't really degress of separation (despite the "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" game). So, any sin sorrows God equally.
