Considering how, by the end of war, the RAF was flying the P-51 Mustang, one of the greatest fighters of all time, and the Luftwaffe was not, I'd have to say that, had I been able to serve in the military during WWII, I'd have preferred to serve with the RAF.

The RAF proved superior to the Luftwaffe because it developed into a strategic force. At the beginning of the Second World War, the German Luftwaffe was the best at ground support, but never evolved beyond that role. Without a strategic force, the Luftwaffe could not defeat the RAF over Britain.

Relative quality of aircraft is debatable, especially concerning the Spitfire vs. Bf.109/Fw.190. Both air forces produced great aircraft, but the RAF Lancasters and Halifaxs had no equal in the Luftwaffe.

Is your question - Royal Air Force or Luftwaffe? The answer is simple - the Royal Air Force (the Defender) beat the Luftwaffe (the Attackers) hands down in the Battle of Britian. The RAF Bomber Command was able to maintain its night operations against the German heartland though out the war. The Luftwaffe never developed heavy bombers, their light and medium bombers failed to deliver the destructive force they required to force England out of the war. The Germans flew jets as early as 1940 but felt they didn't need to develop them further. When they realized their mistake and started building jets they had already lost the Superiority battle over Europe.

There's no question about it, the RAF had better leadership and better long range planning. The British aircraft industry produced aircraft every bit as good and in many cases better than the Germans. When asked by Hermann Goering what he could get the leading German pilot, Adolf Galland answered without missing a beat; "Spitfires, give me Spitfires!".

It was very close, but the RAF saved the day.Referring to the all time best fighter bomber with the RAF, it was the Mosquito and not the P.51 mustang, this was an American fighter.

They both operate the Tornado and the Typhoon.
I would pick the RAF because they have far more combat experience then the German Airforce.

Thanks to those few who were with RAF, but the Luftwaffe nearly had Fighter Command to its knees if not for the miracle of Sept 15th (those were Air Dowdy's words btw). The miracle was Hitlers change from airfields and radar sites to cities, not the effects of RAF fighter pilots...sorry.

Luftwaffe all the way. If Germany hadn't been fighting the whole world, you would have seen they could have easily overcame the RAF.
