See if I do decide to play secular music, i don't want any music that talks about sex, profanity, viloence, etc. It's basically going to be love music, and maybe a little dance.. Part of me says it's ok, and part of me says no..
I mean love music is love music, I don't think it's wrong to listen to that... or is it?

Jiloth7--
Having a wedding at a Winery is ok,
Just because I'm having my wedding ceremony at a Winery doesn't mean that everyone is going to get drunk, and be foolish. And having a wedding at a Winery doesn't necessiarily mean I will be providing wine.. There are non alcoholic drinks as Cider, fizzy drinks, soda, etc..

My daughter was married this past July and it was her wedding and we are all members of the church, and she picked both secular and christian music,, And I think it is just fine as long as the music is tasteful,, it is your wedding and it will be the biggest day of your life,, enjoy and don't worry about what everyone else thinks,, as long as you feel right in your heart about it go ahead,,Do what will be fun for you and your groom,, we burned c.d.'s of the music she wanted at the wedding and a c.d. for the reception,, congratulations....

Christian Secular Music

In a Catholic wedding Mass, completely secular love songs have no place.

The reason for this is that music is part of the liturgy; it is sung prayer offered up by the congregation to God. That is the role music plays in the ceremony, and as such, the same kinds of hymns that are used at other Masses are the same ones appropriate to a wedding Mass.

Now there actually are some popular songs that are close enough to being a hymn that, though people would recognize them, they are still appropriate:

- Cat Steven's "Morning Has Broken" (which is actually an old hymn.)
- MercyMe's "I Can Only Imagine"
- Sixpence "In the Garden"

...and others. A wedding is a religious celebration, just like a church service. Just like you wouldn't sing "Hey baby, you're hot!" at a 10:30 Sunday morning church service, it is no more appropriate at a wedding....

i think that at the wedding inside the church... well I am old fashioned when it comes to this and I don't think secular music should be played. I think it should be church music. But I am also of the opinion that a bride should not wear a strapless gown in a church (like I said old fashioned!)

at the reception play what you want, but in the church, keep it respectful and remember what you are there for.

I don't know who Zap n Rodger is but if it's what the two having the wedding want, then it's their wedding and it's all good. I used to work sound for weddings and many people wanted songs by Alabama or Lionel Richie or whatever and that's as secular as anything else. Everyone seemed to have a good time, so "Get 'er done!"

The Bible spells it out clearly. "What fellowship has light with darkness or what concord has Christ with Belial?"

I believe this verse tells us that we are to walk in the light and abstain from the things of darkness.

I Corinthians 10:31 tells us that, "Whether therefore ye eat or drink or whatever you do, DO ALL TO THE GLORY OF GOD." I can conceive of no way that worldly music can glorify God, and therefore has no place in a Christian life in any capacity.

EDIT: If part of you says okay and the other part says no then you would be wise to listen to the first part because the Bible says the "Whatsoever is not of faith is sin." There is no secular music that talks about love from God's point of view. Agape love is unknown to the secular world.

As far as having your wedding in a winery - WHY? Are you a Christian? What way is God glorified in having a wedding in a place where a product is produced that has caused many drunken deaths and destroyed lives?

EDIT: THE BIBLE TELLS US TO ABSTAIN FROM EVERY APPEARANCE OF EVIL. PEOPLE COULD EASILY SEE SOMETHING MORE IN YOUR WINERY WEDDING THAN YOU MIGHT BELIEVE. PEOPLE WHO ARE OUTSIDE OF CHRIST OFTEN LOOK FOR EXCUSES NOT TO ACCEPT CHRIST. SEEING YOUR "CHRISTIAN" WEDDING TAKING PLACE AT A WINERY MAY GIVE THEM THE EXCUSE THEY NEED TO TURN THEIR BACK ON CHRIST. PAUL THE APOSTLE SAID HE WOULD NOT EVEN EAT MEAT IF HE THOUGHT IT WOULD OFFEND HIS BROTHER AND HE WOULD NOT WANT TO PUT A STUMBLINGBLOCK IN FRONT OF ANYONE. I BELIEVE THAT WE SHOULD BE VERY CAREFUL OF OUR CHRISTIAN TESTIMONY FOR THE SAKE OF OTHERS.

I use to listen to secular music, but then I started asking myself if what we listen to is honoring God. If it don't then I don't listen to it. We all have to make our choices. We all have to stand before God and give an account on what we do each and every day. Will it honor God? If you can say yes. Then go for it.

Any music is wrong in God's eyes if it promotes the values of this selfish world.

All music is not bad though.

If the music is about hurting others, fornication, doing whatever it takes to get ahead, etc. Then yes it is not good.

If it is about being in love or being good to each other, what is wrong with that?

I'm a Christian, and I listen to secular music. I really don't see the big deal about it. Not all secular music promotes sex and violence, I think you just have to use your own personal judgement on what you want to hear.

I'm not familiar with Zap n Rodger, but secular music that doesn't have or suggest any obscene lyrics would be ok.
