If there is a casino in your town it will add a lot of jobs (servers, dealers, managers, maintenance workers, guards). It will give a lot of entertainment and dining options (subsidized by the casino as a way to get people to visit there). It will not make a bunch of local people into gambling addicts because if they weren't gambling in your town they would go somewhere else and do the same amount of gambling there. The casino (or the state) will upgrade your local and access roads. If your town is smart they will request revenue sharing from the casino (as ones in the Northeast US have done) and that can be millions coming off the local tax burden.

The good thing about a local casino is that it generates revenue, and is fun to go to once in awhile for most people. The bad thing is that there are always a certain percentage of the local population (which would not otherwise go to a casino, or not go as frequently) that cannot gamble responsibly and get into terrible debt, sometimes affecting whole families.

Unfortunately Rich Z whether you believe the stories or not the fact remains that a lot of people will end up with gambling problems because of the ease of access to a gaming establishment. You need to look at studies of social impact where gaming is concerned. The benefits generally out way the negative aspects of having a casino.

I do not think Casinos are a good thing but if that's what people want ,let them have casinos. I do not patronize casinos or buy lottery tickets because I honestly believe the odds of winning are small and the chance of losing is great, therefore I choose to keep my small money in my pocket and not willingly give it to someone who has a lot of money already.

If your a winner it's good. If your a loser it's bad. If you lose everything you have it's really bad. Otherwise, other than bringing every con job know to man to your area, every tale of woe and countless sob stories, nothing will change.
