We have ours in the bathrooms, just seems like the most reasonable place, easy to clean up tracked litter and the doors are always open so they can go whenever they need.

I have 6 cats, one just had 5 kittens, so I have a lot of litter boxes. 2 under the stairs in the living room, 2 in the laundry room, 4 upstairs in the kneewall, 1 in the bathroom, and 1 in the basement. I try to keep them in various areas so they are convenient for the cats to use. Some are covered and some are open and they use all of them. If I could afford it I would replace them all with Littermaids Those self-cleaning litter boxes are awesome!!

We actually have two in the house. One is in a downstairs bathroom area - mostly because it is rarely used and out of the way. The other is in a spare room upstairs that we use for hobbies and such. Again - its out of the way but the cats can easily get to it. Also, since these areas aren't in the main traffic pattern, we don't get as impacted by any potential odors.
If you move yours, I would recommend making sure the cats know where it is. Once you move it, take them to it and set them down in it or beside it. The last thing you need is a cat with a full bladder searching for its box!

I have the litter box in my computer room. and a cardboard lid slid under the box and protruding out for the cats to step on to catch litter. My bathrooms aren't situated for a litter box or I'd put it there.
The cat food and water is in the kitchen. Cats do not like their food and litter in the same area.

We actually don't use the breakfast nook at the other end of the kitchen so her litterbox (enclosed - she's shy about doing her business) is kept at that end. We also have another in the basement (I was told by my vet's office that you really should have one more box than you have cats).

We keep ours in the bathroom out of necessity. We live in a small one bedroom apartment and the only two places that aren't carpeted are the bathroom and the kitchen (yuck).

I Have mine in the laundry room. It makes it nice, out of the way. Before I had a lundry room I kept it in the master bedroom bathtub, hidden and easy to clean up. Hope it helps.
