When they are ok with you buying them one. If they don't like, it not good to do!

Probably only if he/she specifically asked for a specific coffin AND the person has the right mindset. An unsolicited coffin would probably be received at best as morbid and at worst that you are wishing for their death. Coffins certainly are expensive and would therefore be a generous gift, but the person receiving such a gift would have to be really secure.

It would be cool to get one around Halloween or if the person you are giving it to is into the occult or wicca. Or if they are a vampire. Or if you wish that person dead. Those are the only occasions that I could think getting a coffin would be a good idea. Either way it sounds fun. Take care and good luck.

You've solved a problem for me. A guy I cant stand is in hospital and no shops sell " Stay Sick" cards, only "Get Well" ones. I cant afford a big coffin...so perhaps a small one and a mincer?

I'd be a little annoyed at being so drastically over gifted. I probably got you something good, but a couple thousand dollars good! So on that note, I guess it would be ok if they bought you a used car or something in an equivalent price range.

When they are dead.

To buy a living person a coffin is either thinly veiled death threat or hope you don't get well card.

Do not listen to mortuary sales people.

When they openly visit your house dressed like a Goth and invite you to a Death Poetry Night, "or whatever".
I would include if they arrive naked as well.

Please bear in mind that gifts to dead people are technically not gift as dead people can not own anything and are most likely not tax deductible.

I recommend a nice tie or sports coat. Every one can use something to wear.

sez - you are right. If they have a relative that dies and can not afford a nice coffin it would be a very good time to buy them one as a gift.

When they need a coffee table plus storage! Buy a lovely lacy table cloth to cover it up and bob's your uncle! They'll get the pleasure of using it during life and after death! What more could they possibly want?! lol

you can buy me one now
will save the family a few bob

otherwise i would talk to and asak who you are thinking of one for

you don`t need to ask me just buy it
better still send me the money for it
then i can enjoy my self twice as much
1 having money to spend (which i will do)
2 family have to pay for my coffin

Buy them the coffin immediately and they will love sleeping in it.
